Original Press Release:

Thales Optem Nir Zoom 70XL Optical System Extends Machine Vision And Inspection Applications Into The Near-Infrared Spectrum.

Rochester, New York, USA - July 31, 2002 - Thales Optem proudly introduces the new NIR Zoom 70XL Optical System. Specifically designed to meet the near-infrared machine vision and inspection needs of today's microelectronics and telecommunications industries, The NIR Zoom 70XL provides 7:1 zoom ratio in the 630 - 2000nm wavelength range, as well as across the visible spectrum.

This cross-spectrum imaging versatility makes the NIR Zoom 70XL ideal for a broad range of microelectronics and fiber optic applications, including:

- Emmission microscopy for quality control and non-contact analysis,

- Fiber alignment for telecommunications manufacturing

- Laser Diode inspection at the front end of the manufacturing process

- Backside viewing and inspection of Silicone thin sections

- Microelectronics and semiconductor failure analysis and forensics,

- And even examination and restoration of archival documents and fine art

The NIR Zoom 70XL's modular design, accessories, and configuration options are nearly identical to that of its visible-spectrum predecessor, Thales Optem's Zoom 70XL. A revolutionary anti-reflection optics coating enhances contrast, increases transmission and handles the 630-2000nm spectrum. Like the visible-spectrum Zoom 70XL, the NIR also guarantees 250,000 zoom cycles to ensure extended service life, durable productivity and greater peace of mind. The NIR Zoom 70XL offers parfocality throughout its zoom range and is chromatically corrected for its intended spectral band.

The broad spectral range allows use with a conventional CCD camera, however to utilize its near-infrared capabilities, the NIR Zoom 70XL requires a NIR-compatible camera. Two recommended cameras include the InGaAs array cameras (900-1700nm), and the PbO-Pbs tube camera (630-2000nm).

Located in Rochester, New York, Thales Optem (formerly Optem) specializes in the design, development and manufacture of zoom optical systems, custom optical solutions, relay optics and image analysis instruments. Thales Optem's optical systems meet the needs of customers in the machine vision, biomedical, metrology, life science, education, research, government intelligence, environmental management, semiconductor, and micro-electronic packaging markets.
