Tyco Electronics Offers New Refractive Plate Multimode Optical Switch Capable of Withstanding >200Gs of Shock

Harrisburg, PA, March 24, 2003 - For systems requiring intermediate switching speeds for reconfiguration, re-routing, and route protection, optomechanical fiber optic switches can offer the right mix of cost and reliability. Tyco Electronics' new Refractive Plate Optical Switch recently passed the Navy's Barge test (MIL-S-901D), and has also passed impact testing with a 200 G, 8 ms, half-sine pulse with no discontinuities in either the ON or OFF states.

The key to the shock performance of this switch is a patented, pivoting glass plate that is almost perfectly balanced. This design gives excellent performance and scaleable channel growth in multimode applications that require a rugged optical switch.
