Key Technology Introduces New Camera Option for Optyx® Optical Sorter

Key Technology introduces a new lower camera option for the compact Optyx optical sorter. New models equipped with upper and lower cameras provide even smaller-volume processors the effectiveness and efficiency of two-sided inspection. With one pass, applications susceptible to single-sided defects such as apple or potato slices are easily sorted to achieve the highest level of product quality.

Versatile upper and lower camera configurations can be set for a variety of defect detection and viewing requirements. The upper camera can be programmed to look for one type of target defects while the lower camera can sort for another type. For example, the upper camera might view for color defects while the lower looks for shape defects. As a result, processors can remove foreign material and defects at the same time, eliminating the need for multiple passes or more than one inspection unit.

Optyx features Key's advanced camera, lighting, imaging, shape detection, and ejection technologies. Camera/lighting options include full-color, Vis/IR and UV. Proportionately sized for lesser volumes in a self-contained one-meter (42-inch) cabinet, its compact size conserves valuable floor space and slips easily into existing layouts. Optyx justifies automated inspection for smaller-volume processors with a smaller investment than full-scale units. It has been proven in the field for rapid payback, eliminating hand labor, recovering usable rejects from other sorter lines, and enhancing defect detection and product quality.

A unique cantilevered design allows open access to the conveying belt, minimizing down time for product changeovers. Operators simply flip the quick-release mechanism and slip the belt on and off. The unit's simple design makes clean up and maintenance easy and efficient. All surfaces are designed for easy access and total washdown. Optyx is self-contained and easy to install. Simply connect power, water, and air and it is ready to sort. Additionally, top-camera Optyx units can be easily upgraded in the field with the new lower camera option. Key's Optyx customers can protect their investment with UpTime(tm) customized service packages and remote support from Key service engineers with UpTime Connection® online diagnostics. Ongoing training and software upgrades are available to ensure maximum performance.
