OpVista CX8 Optical Networking System for 40G and 100G Services to Debut at NXTcomm08

New DMC-based OpVista CX8 Optical Networking System delivers high bandwidth services on existing 10G networks with integrated ROADM and packet networking capabilities

MILPITAS, Calif., June 9 -- OpVista, a leader in high performance optical networking systems, today announced the OpVista CX8 Optical Networking System. The OpVista CX8 is designed to meet the requirements of service providers worldwide who need to efficiently upgrade existing 10G fiber networks to 40G and 100G to support growing demand for bandwidth intensive services for homes and businesses. The OpVista CX8 is the first optical networking system to be based on the company's recently introduced Dense Multi-Carrier (DMC) technology.

DMC combines advanced multiple carrier photonics, lambda stabilization and multi-level modulation to deliver 40G and 100G bandwidth per wavelength over any type of optical network from metro to ultra long haul. The new DMC-enabled OpVista CX8 system achieves high network capacity while maintaining compatibility with the characteristics of today's 10G optical infrastructure. It also allows service providers to upgrade their existing 10G network incrementally with 40G and 100G wavelength overlays, which can be injected into existing network elements as external wavelengths. As a result, the OpVista CX8 delivers substantial CAPEX and OPEX savings as compared to conventional 40G technology.

"As the first product incorporating DMC technology, the OpVista CX8 transforms how service providers provide support for 40G and 100G over existing 10G networks. The OpVista CX8 also extends the advanced, proven reconfigurability and service-enabling features from the widely installed OpVista2000 product family," said Karl May, Chief Executive Officer, OpVista. "The OpVista CX8 is the ideal platform for service providers facing subscriber demands for high-bandwidth services and needing to respond quickly and cost- effectively."

The OpVista CX8 also features a comprehensive set of service-enabling and management features that allow service providers to deliver bandwidth-intensive services such as High Definition Video and Video on Demand quickly and cost-effectively. The DMC-enabled OpVista CX8 delivers industry-leading fiber capacity of eight terabits/sec -- enough to support one million simultaneous HD video streams on a single fiber.

Furthermore, the OpVista CX8 includes a data-rate agnostic integrated ROADM for cost-effective network reconfiguration, as well as integrated packet aggregation that grooms packets from multiple service connections. Packet aggregation significantly improves network capacity utilization and simplifies network hub locations by reducing the need for external network elements. The OpVista CX8 is managed using OpVista's WaveMaster element management system, and supports TL1 and XML protocols.

The OpVista CX8 with DMC technology is currently in trial deployments with service providers in the US and Europe. "The new OpVista CX8 optical network system with 40G DMC technology provided 40G wavelength insertion over our existing 10G network, without the need for tuning, fiber characterization or re-engineering," said Chris Saunders, Director, Data and Transport, Cox Communications. "The OpVista CX8 with DMC offers a unique value proposition by enabling us future 40G upgrade capacity, aligning network investments to revenues."

The OpVista CX8 supports a wide range of client interfaces, including OC-768/STM-256, OTU-3, OC-192/STM-64, OTU-2, Gigabit Ethernet and 10GbE. The OpVista CX8 will support the emerging IEEE 802.3ba client interface standard for 40GbE and 100GbE when it is available. Intended for telco and cable MSO service providers, the OpVista CX8 conforms to ANSI and ETSI requirements.

The OpVista CX8 optical networking system will be available in June 2008 supporting 10G wavelengths with integrated ROADM and packet aggregation features. Support for 40G transponders will be added in the fourth quarter of 2008.

OpVista is exhibiting at NXTcomm08 in Las Vegas, Nevada at Booth # SL524 on June 17-19, 2008.
