Optical Micrometer System uses GaN LED and linear CCD.

Press Release Summary:

With resolution of 0.01 µm and repeatability of ±0.06 µm, LS-7010 utilizes GaN LED light source with green 520 nm wavelength to produce continuous 6 mm wide beam with no gaps in target detection. Combined with high speed linear CCD, technology enables unit to sample targets at rates to 2,400 S/sec. Telecentric Optical System uses parallel light to form image, and CMOS camera mounted in receiver head provides image of target on controller.

Precision Optical Micrometer Uses GaN LED and High-Speed Linear CCD

The new Keyence LS-7010 Optical Micrometer System provides a resolution of 0.01 µm with a repeatability of ± 0.06 µm, 2 X the accuracy of conventional micrometers. The LS-7010 samples targets at a rate of 2400 samples/sec., double the speed of conventional systems.

The new LS System does not use motors or rotating prism mechanisms that conventional laser scanning micrometers use. The Keyence micrometer incorporates a high intensity, low noise GaN LED light source to produce a continuous 6 mm (0.24 in.) wide beam with no gaps in target detection due to beam scanning. Combined with a HL-CCD (High Speed Linear CCD) this new technology offers a significant increase in measurement speed and accuracy. LS Series Optical Micrometers are also available with beam widths of 30, 40, 60 and 120 mm.

The green 520 nm wavelength of the GaN LED closely matches the operating characteristics of the GCD receiver element compared to GaP laser diodes used in earlier systems. Additional performance enhancing features include a newly designed Telecentric Optical System that uses parallel light to form an image, thus preventing fluctuations in lens magnification due to variations in target position.

The IP-64 rated construction makes the LS-7010 capable of operating in harsh, wet production and assembly type environments. The unit incorporates an abnormal value elimination function for increased measurement accuracy and a transparent object measurement function for measurement of transparent targets.

With no moving parts in the LS-7010 sensor head, no heat or vibration is generated to introduce measurement errors or affect sampling speed. The LS Micrometer is a reliable precision instrument for performing high-speed measurements on moving targets in fast production and assembly line applications. The LS micrometer is ideally suited for the in-line diameter monitoring and production control of fine wire, fiber optic filaments, small diameter tubing, and even transparent glass fibers.

A CMOS camera mounted in the receiver head provides an image of the target on the Target Viewer section of the LS-7501 controller. Users can quickly and accurately position the target in the beam for precise measurement.
