Racklive expands storage lineup with 50TB optical archive library

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., – Today at the SC14 Conference, Racklive announced immediate availability of the HL100-RL Optical Library, providing long-term archive for critical applications requiring data retention and permanency.  The modular design includes 50 Terabytes of Blu-ray optical storage per 4U appliance, delivering a 50-year TUV certified archive.

"It's built for enterprise applications in Healthcare, Financial Services, Energy, Surveillance, High-Performance Computing and emerging Web-scale Applications, and delivers significant benefits where data retention and durability of 5 or more years is required," said Joel Wineland, CTO, Racklive.  "Our integrated data center product includes rack-level power distribution, SDN switch, management server, cache appliance, and scalable units of 50 Terabytes per optical library, allowing for current densities of 0.5 Petabytes per rack, growing to 1 Petabyte in March 2015."

Positive Customer Impact

Roadmap development of both high-capacity optical media, and enterprise-class drives and libraries, has improved densities while also lowering Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).  This offers an alternative to legacy tape products.   Many customers and industries have already benefited from deploying optical technologies, with current optical disk drive volumes reaching 253 million units in 2013.

Racklive, through its partnership with Hitachi-LG Data Storage and their commercial US Distributor, Digistor, will continue to collaborate in delivering new form-factors, densities, performance, and improved TCO.  "When compared with legacy tape products, Blu-ray archival media is a great way to store long-term data as 'Cold Storage' for secure, seldom accessed data. At the data center scale, it's a green technology bringing power efficiency and reduced waste, zero data migration, and recyclable media," said George Reitz, VP of Enterprise Storage at Digistor. "Total Cost of Ownership is relevant when long-term retention is a priority."

HL100-RL Optical Library Availability
