Spectra(TM) GT30 Flame Sensor Offers High Temperature and Pressure Performance for Gas Turbine Applications

Solid-state Sensor Eliminates False Turbine Trips and Other Performance Issues

WILMINGTON, Mass. U.S.A.-The new Spectra(TM) GT30 sensor from AMETEK Power Instruments is an extremely robust, compact solid-state optical flame sensor that provides greater reliability than standard ultraviolet (UV) tube-designed flame sensors. The sensor's improved reliability solves the problem of false trips and helps to avoid costly unscheduled turbine shutdowns.

The Spectra GT30 sensor receives UV energy from the combustion process and transmits a 4-20mA analog signal proportional to flame intensity. It operates continuously at 257°F (125°C) without cooling or at mounting temperatures up to 700°F (371°C) and an operating temperature of 400°F (240°C) with the use of an optional cooling unit. The Spectra GT30 also can withstand combustion pressures up to 30Bar so that no intermediate windows or pressure barriers are required.

The versatile Spectra GT30 sensor mounts directly onto the turbine case or on a short standoff pipe via a 3/4 inch NPT internal thread. The two-wire, 24 VDC loop-powered sensor is fully self-contained and does not require a separate amplifier. Various cable options are available. For turbine retrofits and upgrades, the sensor can be connected directly to a control system or through a relay module.

The Spectra GT30 flame sensor offers a host of features:
o Versatility - The unit is compatible with the full range of industrial fuels - natural gas, oil, and waste gas. Its wide UV spectrum sensitivity provides strong output even during water or steam injection. The fully sealed, stainless steel sensor installs on standard pipe threads and can be mounted directly on any type turbine.

o Reliability - The unit's robust design meets or exceeds rigorous test standards for temperature, vibration and humidity. It features a hermetically sealed housing and brazed window assembly that protects the sensor from extremely high process pressures.

o Performance - The unit is 100% solid-state. There are no tubes or shutters to fail. Its analog output requires no separate amplifier to worry about. Its high-temperature electronics enables the sensor to function at elevated operating temperatures.

o Wide Dynamic Range-Dual gain amplifier with saturation limiting circuitry.

o Fast response-Ensures rapid fuel shutoff during flame out.
