Optical Fiber Splicer offers large diameter capabilities.

Press Release Summary:

Precision optical fiber splicer LFS-4100 uses filament fusion technology to create high-strength, low-loss splices on standard as well as specialty fibers, including polarization maintaining (PM) fibers, photonic crystal fiber (PCF), and non-circular shapes. Designed to work with GPX-3000 Series glass processors, unit supports use on up to 1.25 mm dia fibers and includes full computer with large screen to facilitate operation.

Original Press Release:

Vytran Introduces New Optical Fiber Splicer with Large Diameter Fiber Splicing Capabilities

Morganville, New Jersey – Vytran, a leading supplier of innovative optical fiber splicing and processing solutions, introduces the “LFS-4100,” a new precision optical fiber splicer designed for use on fibers as large as 1.25 mm in diameter. The company will show the LFS-4100 at the LASER World of PHOTONICS exhibition in Munich, Germany, from May 13-16, 2013.

“Vytran has enhanced its established LFS-4000 splicer with greater splicing capabilities and an improved mechanical design to create the new LFS-4100,” said David Douglass, Ph.D., Vytran product line manager. “The LFS-4100 can handle fiber diameters as large as 1.25 mm, matching the large diameter splicing capability of the industry flagship, Vytran’s own GPX-3400 glass processor. In addition, at the request of customers, our LFS-4100 includes a full computer with a large screen, making it a very user-friendly, high-performance system.”

Splicing large diameter fibers is particularly critical for applications such as fiber laser manufacturing and producing many fiber-based medical devices. The LFS-4100 uses proprietary filament fusion technology to create high-strength, low-loss splices on both standard and specialty fibers, including polarization maintaining (PM) fibers, photonic crystal fiber (PCF) and non-circular shapes. The system is ideal for volume manufacturing, combining a high degree of user process control with simple operation.

The LFS-4100 splicer is designed to work with Vytran’s GPX-3000 Series of glass processors. As manufacturing processes move from development to volume production, the focus transitions from performance alone to performance, throughput and cost. When used with a GPX-3000 Series glass processor, the LFS-4100 can maintain the industry-leading splice performance of the GPX-3000 Series while reducing the total process time and minimizing cost.

“The new LFS-4100 splicer is an ideal companion to Vytran’s GPX-3000 Series of glass processors and the LDC-400 large diameter fiber cleaver,” said Douglass. “More than ever, these products form a unique suite of equipment that can be used to facilitate early development through volume manufacturing of fiber lasers, medical devices and many others.”

Vytran will show an LFS-4100 and demonstrate a host of other high-performance fiber processing equipment at LASER World of PHOTONICS at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre. Attendees are encouraged to visit the Vytran booth (hall C1, booth 113) and discuss their unique fiber processing applications with on-site specialists. For added convenience, booth appointments can be scheduled by contacting Jim Stathis, Vytran sales manager, at jstathis@vytran.com or by emailing sales@vytran.com.
