Size 15 Self-Contained Optical Encoder


The new self-contained incremental encoder, the RS15, by RENCO Encoders, Inc. of Goleta, CA, provides a 3 channel signal output (A, B and index) in a housed package with shielded or sealed ball bearings. A single LED and sensor arrangement reduces unit cost while improving performance and reliability.

The encoder housing diameter is 1.62" with a body axial length of 1.25". A face mount with a 1.00" bolt circle and four 4.40 holes or a C-Flange mounting adapter is available with optional flex coupling. The RS15 shaft OD is .2495/.2497. Total unit weight is 4.8 ounces.

The RS15 is available with over 30 resolutions ranging from 16 lines up to 1250 lines per revolution. A maximum achievable slew speed of 6000 rpm is furnished for the user. An 8 lead cable is supplied with an integral strain relief for ease of mounting.
