Optical Domes provide environmental protection.

Press Release Summary:

Sapphire Optical Domes offer angles to 160° that protect and extend viewing angle of electronic detectors and sensors exposed to moving particles. They transmit from UV to IR and provide up to 85% transmission uncoated and up to 99% with A/R coatings on 2 sides. Domes are made to specification in sizes up to 4 in. OD and exhibit Moh 9 surface hardness, with <25 micrometer wall thickness variation and <1 fringe/in. surface accuracy measured at 633 nm.

Original Press Release:

Sapphire Domes Provide Environmental Protection

Custom engineered optical domes that protect electronic detectors and sensors which are exposed to harsh environments and extend their viewing angle are available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.

Meller Sapphire Optical Domes feature a surface hardness second only to diamond, with included angles to 160° that protect and extend the viewing angle of electronic detectors and sensors exposed to moving particles such as sand and water. They can transmit from the UV to the IR and provide up to 85% transmission uncoated and up to 99% with A/R coatings on two sides.

Offered in prototype through production quantities, Meller Sapphire Optical Domes are made to specification in sizes up to 4" O.D. and exhibit Moh 9 surface hardness, with finishes to 20-10 scratch-dig per MIL-0-13830, <25 micrometer wall thickness variation and <1 fringe/in. surface accuracy measured @633nm.

Meller Sapphire Optical Domes are priced from $395. each, depending upon material, size, part geometry, and quantity. Literature and price quotations are available upon request.
