Optical Dome protects sensors and detectors.

Press Release Summary:

Optical dome protects from sand, water, and harsh chemicals. Featuring 2000 Knoop hardness, scratch-resistant dome exhibits <25 µm wall thickness variation, <1 fringe/in. surface accuracy measured at 633 nm, and surface finishes to 20-10 scratch-dig per MIL-PRF-13830. Dome can transmit from UV to IR, providing 85% transmission when uncoated and 99% transmission with anti-reflective coatings on 2 sides. Sizes up to 6 in. dia can be fabricated.

Optical Domes Protect Sensors and Detectors

Custom fabricated optical domes that protect sensors and detectors from moving sand, water, and harsh chemicals in military and commercial applications are available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.

Meller Optical Domes can be fabricated in sizes up to 6" dia. and provide included angles to 160 degrees for protecting sensors and detectors that may be exposed to moving particles of sand and water or harsh chemicals. Featuring 2000 Knoop hardness, these scratch-resistant domes exhibit <25 µm wall thickness variation, <1 fringe/in. surface accuracy measured @633nm, and surface finishes to 20-10 scratch-dig per MIL-PRF-13830.

Available with precise edges, steps, and profiles, Meller Optical Domes can transmit from the UV to IR and provide up to 85% transmission uncoated and up to 99% with A/R coatings on two sides. They can be produced in prototype through production quantities from either sapphire or ALON® optical ceramic which offers transmission comparable to sapphire with no birefringence.

Meller Optical Domes are priced from $395.00 ea., depending upon material, size, geometry and quantity. Literature is available upon request.
