Eaton Corporation's Cutler-Hammer Business Unit Introduces the PanelMate ePro

A Faster and More Powerful Operator Interface Solution

PITTSBURGH, PA. Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation announces the Cutler-Hammer PanelMate ePro. The PanelMate ePro operator interface provides the benefits of an open platform, such as flexibility, with the stability offered in a proprietary system for use in rugged industrial applications.

The ePro is equipped with the features of an open computing platform and is designed to meet the rigorous demands of industrial environments. Using solid state technology, the
PanelMate ePro is more reliable and less susceptible to shock, vibration, temperature variation and airborne contaminants.

Ethernet connectivity and OPC client/server support allow the ePro to communicate using various protocols, including Allen-Bradley, GE, Modbus, and corporate networks. In addition, it supports many serial protocols and can communicate using high-speed networks such as DeviceNet, Allen Bradley Data Highway Plus, ControlNet and Modicon Modbus Plus-allowing users to work with the network best suited for their applications.

"The rapid emergence of the Ethernet on the factory floor for both PLC communications and for operator access to networked information drove the development of the PanelMate ePro," said Kerry Sparks, operator interface product manager. "We also recognized a migration toward Windows-based embedded systems and the use of Microsoft technologies for seamless transfers of data throughout the plant enterprise network. The ePro brings these technologies together in a highly reliable package."

Since it is configured using PanelMate Power Pro software, existing applications can be easily reused on the ePro. Additionally, users can take advantage of the editing features
such as the tag name database, 3,000 customizable graphic symbols and the capability to incorporate advanced math and Boolean expressions within an application.

The ePro features a compact color TFT touch screen display, with support for 200 pages of information and 65,000 local messages. Page changes, data updates, and responses to operator inputs are quick and application storage capacity has been expanded to hold 16 times more data. Also, the PanelMate ePro fits into a PanelMate 1500/1700 cutout - 10 x 11 inches.

Additional models, including a blind node (no display), a 7.7" color DSTN and a 10.4" color TFT model, will be introduced throughout the first six months of 2002. Also, an "Extended
Edition" model will be introduced and will include recipe management, data trending and archiving, document viewing and message display management.
