Microchip Technology Expands Power Management Portfolio with New Family of Operational Amplifiers

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Nov. 19, 2001 - Extending its reach in the analog arena, Microchip Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: MCHP) today announced the MCP602X family of op amps for low current, high-performance applications. The MCP6O2X rail-to-rail input and output op amps, offer designers a cost-effective way to improve performance and increase the operational life of battery powered systems for audio processing. communications, test and medical equipment applications.

The MCP6021, MCP6022. MCP6023 and MCP6024 op amps offer rail-to-rail input and output that allows the full voltage supply range to be useful from 5.5-volt down to 2.5-volt voltage supply operation.

The MCP6021 (single), MCP6022 (dual) and MCP6024 (quad) devices meet industry standard pin-outs in standard PDIP, SOIC and TSSOP packages.

Featuring unity gain stability with a gain bandwidth product (GBWP) of 10 MHz, low noise (8.7 nV/rtHz) and a maximum quiescent current (IQ) of 1.35 microamps (mA) the devices can be used without costly, stabilizing circuitry. The low offset voltage reduces this need for off-setting components while achieving low power consumption, minimizing board-space usage and lessening design time and component cost. Consideration of these areas of high-performance specifications, make the MCP602X devices ideal for driving analog to digital converters (ADCs). buffering digital to analog converters (DACs) and barcode scanning applications "Many microcontrollers and DSPs operate down to 2.5 volts and these op amps, the building blocks of analog circuitry. support the trend towards these lower operating voltage levels. The introduction of the MCP602x family reinforces Microchip's commitment to delivering key value-added analog ICs that enable mobile and embedded control electronics," said Art Eck, product marketing manager for the Analog Interface Product Division at Microchip Technology. The devices are fully specified from -40°C to +85°C and have a typical IQ of 1.0 mA that will extend battery life over traditional 10 MHz op amps.

To support the MCP602X family, Microchip offers the FilterLab(TM) Active Filter Design Tool, which simplifies active filter design for embedded systems designers using op amps for analog filter purposes. Available at no cost from Microchip's Web site (www.microchip.com). the FilterLab software provides full schematic diagrams of the filter circuit with component values and displays the frequency response.

Pricing in 1,000-unit quantities is $0.74 each for the MCP6021, $0.77 for the single with chip select MCP6023, $0.95 for the dual MCP6022 and $1.38 for the quad MCP6024. Samples and volume quantities are available today. The devices are available in 8-pin PDIP. SOIC and MSOP packages and 14-pin PDIP. SOIC and TSSOP packages.
