Overview

IBM 4690 Operating System (OS) is a retail-hardened, multiuser, multitasking, high-performance operating system that runs on select SurePOS(TM) 469x, 468x, and 700 Series terminals. It supports:

o Retail applications written in Java(TM), C++, C, and CBASIC

o Access to unique I/O devices for point of sale (POS)

o Thin clients with reliable terminal-to-controller communications

o Communication with external networks

New in V3.3

V3.2, announced in Software Announcement 203-044, dated February 18, 2003, provided you with the solid foundation needed to support e-business and maximize productivity at the POS. Release 3 provides several important enhancements, including:

o Support for the new SurePOS 700 terminals being announced today

o Support for the latest SureMark(TM) Printers with Document Scanning and Electronic Check Imaging

o Support for the latest SurePoint(TM) Flat Panel Displays

o Bootable CD-ROM support

o Java VM 1.4.1 currency
