ZNYX Announces B1-SDN Fully Compliant OpenFlow 1.3 Switch with Significant Price Advantages

Designed for SDN and NFV Environments as Dedicated Top-of-Rack OpenFlow Switch or as Flexible IP and OpenFlow Hybrid Switch

FREMONT, Calif. — ZNYX Networks(®), an innovator of high-density platforms for virtualization and SDN environments, today announced the B1-SDN fully compliant OpenFlow 1.3 switch. Designed for SDN (software-defined network) and NFV (network function virtualization) environments with very large flow entries, the B1-SDN can support up to 250,000 flows, flexible multi-table configurations, and the complete OpenFlow 1.3 specification - at nearly half the price of network processor-based solutions. Customers will recognize tangible and immediate cost benefits.

Able to support up to 35GB throughput of average size packets, the B1-SDN can also handle up to 80GB throughput of jumbo packets. This impressive throughput, and high 10GB and 40GB port count, makes the B1-SDN an ideal top-of-rack (TOR) OpenFlow switch.

"Developers crafting sophisticated devices at the network edge require the full feature set of the OpenFlow 1.3 specification," said Jeff Elpern, vice president of software, ZNYX. "The B1-SDN platform overcomes many limitations - small flow tables supporting less the 10,000 rules; fixed multi-table configuration; and incomplete support of OpenFlow 1.3 matching fields, actions and instructions - of OpenFlow switches based on commercial Ethernet switch fabrics."

Based on the ZNYX high-density B1 TOR switch platform, the unique hardware configuration of the B1-SDN is the foundation of its unparalleled performance. Operating as a single multi-port OpenFlow switch, the high performance compute environment based on the latest dual Intel(®) Xeon(®) processor E5-2600 with up to 24 cores is integrated with a high-end network environment.

"Prior feature-rich OpenFlow 1.3 switches that supported large flow tables were powered by network processors with expensive TCAM memory," said David Parkinson, vice president of hardware engineering, ZNYX. "By combining a powerful Intel compute environment with a powerful switch fabric, the B1-SDN delivers the advanced features of OpenFlow 1.3 and 250,000 flow entries at about half the price of network processor-based solutions."

The compute environment hosts a software implementation of OpenFlow that supports all matching fields, instructions, and actions defined in the OpenFlow 1.3 specification. The network environment provides the Ethernet port count -- (24) 10GB and (4) 40GB -- required for TOR switches. The combination of an IP-based switch fabric and software OpenFlow switch enable the B1-SDN to be configured as a hybrid switch. Embedded and side-by-side hybrid configurations provide flexibility in use and design.

With the OpenFlow softswitch and IP switch fabric configured in side-by-side hybrid mode, the B1-SDN front panel ports are divided between Ethernet switching and OpenFlow switching.  In this mode, the B1-SDN can support a rack of servers with mixed IP or OpenFlow switching requirements to accommodate the demands of each unique data center environment, while offering operational simplicity.

In the embedded hybrid mode, all the front panel ports are connected to the Ethernet switch, and the ZNYX OpenArchitect (®) OS packet filtering determines which flows are passed to the embedded OpenFlow softswitch.  This approach provides sophisticated packet processing and manipulation capabilities that improve performance and manageability.

The B1-SDN is currently shipping. More information can be found at www.znyx.com, or contact ZNYX Networks sales at sales@znyx.com or (800) 724-0911.
