Open Text's Hummingbird Connectivity(TM) Division Receives FIPS 140-2 Certification for Its Cryptographic Module
Federal Information Processing Standard 140-2 Certification Addresses Software Security Requirements for Government, Military, and Financial Customers
CHICAGO, Oct. 4 - Open Text(TM) Corporation (NASDAQ:OTEX)(NASDAQ:TSX:)(NASDAQ:OTC), the largest independent provider of enterprise content management (ECM) software and solutions, today announced that its Hummingbird Connectivity(TM) division's Hummingbird Cryptographic Module has received certification for the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 - a U.S. and Canadian government standard to accredit software and hardware cryptographic modules. Cryptographic modules offer encryption and decryption algorithms which are used to protect the information when it is stored or transmitted.
Established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the U.S. and the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) in Canada, FIPS 140-2 was designed to ensure that all U.S. Federal Government departments or agencies only purchase and use cryptographic products that securely protect their unclassified, but sensitive data. Hummingbird Connectivity worked closely with Domus IT Security Laboratory, an independent certified laboratory, to test 11 security requirements related to the design and implementation of the Hummingbird Cryptographic Module.
"FIPS 140-2 certification consists of a rigorous process that allows the Federal Government to accredit the security of software and hardware cryptographic modules," said Christian Brych, Director of Domus IT Security Laboratory. "Hummingbird Connectivity has diligently worked with our laboratory, meeting all the requirements necessary to obtain the FIPS 140-2 certification standard."
The product is included in the latest versions of Hummingbird Connectivity software that require encryption including: Exceed PowerSuite(TM), Exceed®, HostExplorer®,NFS Maestro(TM), Connectivity Secure Shell(TM) and Connectivity SecureTerm®. The certification will enable the company to firmly address the software security requests and requirements of its customers.

Availability: The Hummingbird Cryptographic Module is immediately available for Hummingbird Connectivity 2008 software and subsequent versions.
