OPEN MIND Extends Partnership with PTC®

Wessling, Germany, June 4, 2007 - hyperMILL®, the user-friendly 2-D, 3-D, HSC, and 5-X CAM system, is now available integrated within Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire from Parametric Technologies Corp. As OPEN MIND Technologies AG has recently renewed its membership in the PTC Partner Advantage(TM) Program, this partnership makes OPEN MIND's technology-leading hyperMILL software available to Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire users while working concurrently in the Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire CAD environment. Accordingly, there is no loss of data through translations and associatively with the model is maintained.
OPEN MIND's hyperMILL has been available to manufacturers in many industries for more than a dozen years and has always maintained a unique platform strategy. hyperMILL has been integrated into leading manufacturing CAD platforms and provides users with an alternative CAM system, deep integration, and high performance, especially in Feature Technology automation and in multi-axis processing. The hyperMILL kernel is currently also available standalone and integrated into other popular mid-range CAD systems.
Benefits of Integration
There are many benefits to the deep integration offered by hyperMILL in Pro/ENGINEER. Firstly, being integrated directly in the Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire CAD system allows users to work in a comfortable and powerful CAD environment, yet access the benefits of hyperMILL's CAM strategies. The overall product integration eliminates the passing of Pro/ENGINEER CAD data to the hyperMILL CAM system by a plain file and eliminates the chance to lose data quality that is common with neutral-language (IGES and STEP) translators.
hyperMILL also behaves as an associative application within Pro/ENGINEER. Status flags for each machining cycle will change from "acceptable" to "warning" when geometry elements are changed. They return to acceptable status after re-calculation. No further changes to the machining cycles are required.
And hyperMILL also provides an export link to CG Tech's Vericut® application for simulation and optimization.

Feature Technology Automation
OPEN MIND's hyperMILL has an advanced Feature Technology toolset. In a CAM environment, Feature Technology is used to organize and add intelligence to the CAD data, enabling the application of stored machining process macros as well as reducing the chance of programmer error when searching for holes, planes, pockets and other geometry patterns in a complex model file. hyperMILL's Feature Technology also incorporates non-traditional Feature types such as strategy curves and surface groups, or even User Defined Features. The idea with these advanced Feature types is to reduce repeated user selections as well as link Features to stored process macros.
Multi-Axis Machining Strategies
OPEN MIND has long provided a broad set of multi-axis machining strategies to cover generalized core/cavity applications, as well as surface machining. Additional specialization is available within hyperMILL to manufacturer turbo machinery and gas turbine components, tire moulds, and cylinder head porting applications. Solutions use 3+2, 4+1, or 5-axis strategies as appropriate.
The hyperMILL strategies are all available in a unified and structured graphical user interface. This structure allows end-users to quickly learn the software system and move from cycle to cycle, or from one job to another with facility.
