Microchip Technology Introduces 100 kHz OP AMPS with Ultra-Low Typcial Quiescent Current (Iq) OF 600 nA

The MCP614X family of high-performance operational amplifiers (op amps) offers less than 1 microampere (µA) maximum quiescent current and 1.4 volt single supply operation

CHANDLER, Ariz., Sept. 30, 2002 [NASDAQ: MCHP - Microchip Technology Inc. today introduced the MCP614X family of operational amplifiers that feature a gain bandwidth product (GBWP) of 100 kHz, an ultra-low typical quiescent current (Iq) of 600 nanoamps (nA) and a maximum quiescent current of 1 microampere (µA). With a typical power consumption of less than one microwatt (µW) at quiescent state with 1.4 volt supply, the op amps are a cost-effective way to improve performance and significantly increase the operational life of high-performance battery-powered systems.

The MCP6141, MCP6142, MCP6143 and MCP6144 op amps offer rail-to-rail input and output that allows the full voltage supply range to be utilized from 5.5V down to 1.4V supply operation. The low voltage operation reduces the need for doubler circuitry and the low quiescent current further reduces demand on the battery--advantages that reduce design time, component cost and board space. Fully specified from -40C to +85C, the devices have a typical quiescent current of 600 nA, which considerably extends battery life over traditional 100 kHz op amps.

The devices are stable for applications with a gain of 10 (V/V) or better, such as sensors, portable instrumentation, battery-powered applications, RFID tags, pH meters, micropower sensors, solar powered systems, and devices powered by a single communication loop such as phones, security, and building safety devices.

To support the MCP614X family, Microchip offers the FilterLab® Active Filter Design Tool, which simplifies active filter design for embedded systems designers using op amps for analog filter purposes. Available at no cost from Microchip's website (www.microchip.com), the FilterLab software provides full schematic diagrams of the filter circuit with component values and displays the frequency response

Pricing in 1,000-unit quantities is $0.44 each for the single (MCP6141), $0.46 for the single with chip select (MCP6143), $0.58 for the dual (MCP6142), and $1.02 for the quad MCP6144. Samples and volume quantities are available today. The devices are available in 8-pin PDIP, SOIC, and MSOP packages and 14-pin PDIP, SOIC and TSSOP packages.
