3000V/us Op Amps From Micrel Provide 10x Improvement in Slew Rate/Power Ratio

- Op amp in SC70-5 provides 3000V/us slew rate with 360 micro A supply current

- Higher speed, lower power consumption than competing devices

- Stable driving high capacitance loads

- Small SC70-5 packaging

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- (April 9,2002) -- Two high-speed op amps from Micrel -- MIC920 and MIC921 -- provide an order of magnitude improvement in the ratio of slew rate-to-power consumption when compared to competing devices. Micrel Semiconductor (NASDAQ: MCRL) is an industry leader in analog and broadband communications integrated circuits.

The MIC920 and MIC921 are decompensated derivatives of the recently introduced MIC918 and MIC919. Decompensation enables the MIC920 and MIC921 to achieve an even higher slew rate and gain-bandwidth product for the same power consumption while still maintaining unity-gain stability. The MIC920 has a gain-bandwidth product of 80MHz and the MIC921 has a gain-bandwidth product of 45MHz. All are capable of driving unlimited capacitance and are housed in SC70-5 packaging.

"The MIC918 and MIC919 set a new standard for the ratio of power consumption to slew rate," said Scott Brown, Linear and RF Business Unit Manager. "The MIC920 and MIC921 put Micrel a full order of magnitude ahead of all comparable devices."

Stability -- often an issue for high speed op amps -- is excellent in all MIC91x op amps. They were designed from the beginning for stable operation and ease of use and are capable of driving loads of any capacitance.

The MIC920 and MIC921 are both specified for supply voltages of +/-2.5V and +/-9V. PSRR is 104dB for the MIC920 and 105dB for the MIC921, and CMRR is 91dB for the MIC920 and 87dB for the MIC92 1. AVOL is 93dB for the MIC920 and 92dB for the MIC921.
