Onyx Graphics Announces Specialty Ink Tools Module

Streamlines Workflow for Users of White Ink, Spot Colors and Liquid Laminates

SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 8 - Onyx Graphics today announced it has released a Specialty Ink Tools module for users of Onyx ProductionHouse(TM) and Onyx PosterShop® version 6.5 software. The Specialty Ink Tools module was created to streamline the workflow for users of select large format inkjet printers that have the capability to use white ink, spot colors, or liquid laminates.

Key Features

The Specialty Ink Tools module dramatically reduces job preparation time by streamlining the application of special ink. With the Specialty Ink Tools module, users can view media color and special ink areas on-screen before printing; adjust ink fill behind or over an image area; control the ink fill areas; select background colors with one click; and save settings and apply them to any Quick Set for full automation of future print jobs. Included are workflow sets for a variety of ink and printer types:

White Ink Workflow: White ink printing capability opens up new revenue opportunities for large format service bureaus by enabling printing on colored or clear surfaces. With white ink, users can print into colored surfaces including metal, vinyl, wood, tile and fabric. By applying a flood of white ink, clear materials can be used to create backlit images and double-sided view panes used in glass doors and windows. It can also be used to print onto a glass mirror surface.

Spot Ink Tool in Preflight: This new quick and easy feature enables the operator to select the media color and designate which areas will receive the spot ink, while working in the Preflight screen. Additional information such as fill amount and spread can also be selected. This new process eliminates the need for the designer to include a separate channel in the authoring program.

Spot Layer Tool for Multi-Print Printers: For printers that can rewind and reprint, this toolset enables users to set up custom layers to create print effects such as double-sided images on clear materials and richly colored overprints.

The Specialty Ink Tools module currently supports select printer models from Mimaki®, Roland(R), NUR®, Durst®, Kornit and Zund.

Availability

The Specialty Ink Tools module is included in all Onyx ProductionHouse 6.5 software packages sold after October 1, 2005 and can be obtained through the Onyx AutoUpdate system. Users of Onyx ProductionHouse 6.5 purchased before October 1, 2005 and all Onyx PosterShop 6.5 software users may purchase the Specialty Ink Tools module as an option.
