LOS GATOS, Calif., Nov. 15 /-- ONStor Inc., the leader in high-performance scalable NAS gateways for multi-vendor storage, today unveiled the Bobcat 2280, a high-throughput NAS gateway featuring the FastPath accelerator chip for 40 percent more performance in streaming media, content delivery and large-scale file storage applications.
As the newest member of the ONStor Bobcat family of NAS Gateways, the Bobcat 2280 combines the industry's most scalable NAS gateway platform with a high-performance file data streaming engine that delivers accelerated performance for content-rich application environments. Target markets for the Bobcat 2280 NAS Gateways include streaming media and content delivery, as well as applications requiring large file read/writes including E-CAD, seismic data analysis, digital effects and processes associated with major manufacturing.
Featuring 40 percent greater performance than previous generations, the Bobcat 2280 includes the new FastPath streaming performance accelerator chip that enables 300MB/sec sustained reads and 265 MB/sec sustained writes. Integrated n-way clustering capability allows aggregate throughput to grow linearly to 1.2GB per second as NAS Gateways are added to the cluster. Delivering maximum benefits with minimal investment, Bobcat 2280 provides three times more performance per dollar than the nearest competitor and allows companies to leverage existing SAN-based storage, software and infrastructure components.

New FastPath Accelerator Speeds Throughput
The new FastPath chip accelerates throughput with an additional processor that acts as a streamlined data channel within the Bobcat's multiprocessor architecture. The Bobcat 2280's purpose-built hardware platform employs 64-bit network processors to deliver both performance and efficiency. Capable of 300MB/sec throughput, the Bobcat 2280 NAS Gateway occupies only 1U of rack height and consumes just 160 watts, resulting in significant space and power savings verses conventional file servers.
