Pacnet Speeds Up Digital Media Delivery

The New Media Delivery Service enables businesses to provide a high-quality rich media experience around the world

HONG KONG, March 2 -- Pacnet today launched its Media Delivery Service, the organization's latest solution which enables businesses to distribute large amounts of rich digital media globally, without the need to manage or invest in a complex delivery network infrastructure.

"Apart from digital content portals and digital media companies, we are now seeing enterprises across diverse industries, as well as the government and education sector, deploying richer media applications on our networks," said Bill Barney, Chief Executive Officer, Pacnet. "But as the demand for distributing digital video and other rich media grows, this places a huge bandwidth demand on the network and this often leads to network congestion, which results in jerky videos and a poor user experience."

"Pacnet's new Media Delivery Service addresses this problem by enabling the smooth and speedy delivery of rich media to a large global audience through the use of state-of-the-art caching and load balancing technology across a global network," said John Currie, Vice President of Product Management at Pacnet. "Businesses benefit from the assurance that a great user experience is guaranteed, and can focus on their core competencies without needing to worry about managing or forking out huge investments for the complex, high-bandwidth global networks required to deliver their digital content."

"This is part of our product strategy to deliver a suite of solutions in the coming months, which will enable us to simplify the use of rich media by businesses to expand their reach, and allows us to address the rapidly growing digital content distribution market," added Mr Currie.

According to research from business consultancy firm Frost and Sullivan, the worldwide video content delivery network market is forecast to see grow at a compound annual growth rate of more than 30 per cent, from a little more than $400 million in 2008, to past $1.4 billion by 2012.

Pacnet's Media Delivery Service is a fully hosted solution with advanced web-based management and real-time monitoring and reporting tools available via a user-friendly customer portal. Businesses simply need to sign up for the service, upload the content to the system and watch their content be distributed faster.

The service supports all popular rich media formats including Adobe Flash(R), Microsoft(R) Windows Media(R), Silverlight(TM) and HTTP/Web downloadable content, and is offered with an industry-leading Proactive Service Level Agreement (SLA) that includes a 100 per cent uptime guarantee. It can also support live streaming for events such as meetings, trainings, presentations, sport games and concerts.

Recognizing the varied digital media distribution demands required by businesses, Pacnet's Media Delivery Service is offered in 18 different service plans to ensure that customers will be able to find a plan that fits their needs, as well as scale with their growing needs.

Pacnet's Media Delivery Service is available now across all Pacnet locations.
