Scopus Launches Scopus Custom Data; A New Product for Research Analysis

AMSTERDAM, May 16 -- Introducing Specified Datasets in XML Format to Enable Large-Scale Research Performance Analysis

Scopus®, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed
literature and quality web sources with smart tools to track, analyze and
visualize research, today announced the launch of their new product Scopus
Custom Data. Research agencies, institutions and government bodies will now
be able to order customized datasets in XML format for large-scale research
performance analysis. It will empower them to make well-informed, unbiased
resource allocation and policy making decisions.

In line with Scopus' strategy to deliver research performance measurement
tools, Scopus can now fulfill the needs of policy makers and administrators
at all levels of the organization for high level evaluation reporting through
Scopus Custom Data. The initial steps were to create tools and
functionalities within Scopus for author and research evaluation, which has
now grown to include this endeavor to support large-scale research
performance measurement.

Scopus Custom Data will extract Scopus core records in accordance to each
customer's individual specifications, such as date range, subject categories
and geographic location. The XML data can then be loaded by customers into
their proprietary in-house systems, making it possible for them to run their
specific search queries and execute their own analytical techniques;
providing the analyst with the freedom to formulate their own reports.

"The XML data from Scopus has allowed Academic Analytics to perform the
most comprehensive research performance analysis because of its breadth of
content and its clean structure." said Mark Shay, CEO Academic Analytics.
"Having the ability to control and work with Scopus' rich data is imperative
to our product offering and competitive goals."

Organizations wanting to make unbiased policy decisions can benefit from
the international and regional content Scopus offers. It will provide them
with the most comprehensive global research perspective through its 15,000
peer-reviewed journals from 4,000 different publishers, covering: 15 million
records that increase by at least 1.5 million records annually, 27 subject
categories with over 300 subject classifications, and 245 million references
back to 1996.

Additionally, Scopus Custom Data will enhance the analysis process with
its accurate citation matching intrinsic to Scopus. This includes reference
matching at 99% precision and 98% recall, making the Scopus citations counts
highly reliable. Moreover, the clean, rich and structured data will save time
and streamline the analysis.

"We are extremely pleased to be able to offer Scopus Custom Data to
academic institutions and government agencies" says Jaco Zijlstra, Director
Scopus, "this will enable analysts to analyze research performance with the
most unbiased and accurate data geared specifically to their research needs."
