Toshiba Bolsters Machine Vision Camera Lineup with Introduction of Its First Progressive Scan 3 Chip Color Camera

-- New IK-TF5 One-Piece Camera Satisfies Need of Machine Vision Customers for High-Resolution, Jitter-free Color Image Capture of Fast Moving Objects --

IRVINE, CA, October 22, 2003 - Toshiba, a leader in advanced imaging technologies, announced today the introduction of the company's first progressive scan three CCD color camera, the IK-TF5.

Optimized for machine vision applications such as factory automation, robotics, image processing, and inspection, the one-piece camera eliminates image jitter through its incorporation of three 1/3-inch progressive scan CCDs with 659x494 effective square pixels. The co-site sampling arrangement of the CCDs means there is no RGB shift, so the capture of picture information is more accurate with less jitter, higher resolution (500 TV Lines), and excellent color reproduction.

In its partial scan mode, the IK-TF5 offers high-speed readout of up to 180 frames per second. Full pixel independent readout is 30 frames per second. For enhanced ease of use, it features an RS-232C remote control port (9600 or 19200 BAUD rate), in addition to rear panel switching, that allows remote control of operating functions via a PC.

Ultra-compact and lightweight, the camera measures just 1.7 x 1.7 x 3.1 (WxHxD inches), and weighs a mere 5.47 oz., so it can be installed wherever space is at a premium. The C-Mount allows use of a variety of available lenses.

Highlights of the IK-TF5's array of advanced functions include a nine-step electronic shutter system (1/100 to 1/100,000 sec) that is essential for high-speed applications; automatic and manual white balance, 1-pulse or 2-pulse random triggers, and a clean 64dB signal-to-noise ratio.
