Original Press Release:

Off-Axis Parabolic First Surface Metal Mirrors Free of Aberrations across Broadband Range

Solid metal design for unsurpassed thermal conductivity

Edmund Optics® (EO), the premier provider of optical components, introduces new Off-Axis Parabolic First Surface Metal Mirrors . Used in broadband visible and IR applications, each mirror is interferomically tested and features a surface roughness down to 50Å RMS. Off-Axis Parabolic mirrors (OAPs) have no spherical aberration and are free of chromatic aberration over a broadband range because they are not wavelength dependent. These mirrors are ideal for use in instrumentation and laser systems including Schlieren, MTF, FLIR and FTIR, as well as with IR lasers.

Unrestricted Access to Focal Point Fosters Compact System Designs

Off-Axis Parabolic First Surface Metal Mirrors feature a solid metal design and use no adhesives for excellent thermal conductivity. OAPs have a focal point which is not in line with the optical axis, allowing users to incorporate various components into the system and optimize workspace. This unrestricted access to the focal point permits users to design compact systems with smaller footprints. Standard Off-Axis Parabolic First Surface Metal Mirrors are available with a reflected focal length range from 12.7mm (0.5") to 516mm (20.3").

Protected Aluminum, Protected Gold and Bare Gold Coatings

Manufactured with an Aluminum 6061T6 substrate, Off-Axis Parabolic First Surface Metal Mirrors use protected aluminum, protected gold, and bare gold coatings that cover the wavelength range from 400nm to greater than 12,000nm. The protective dielectric overcoat layer prevents the coating from being damaged from the atmosphere or from cleaning. This increases the durability of the metal coating and provides protection from oxidation with little impact on the coating performance.

Available in 15°, 30°, 45°, 60° or 90° Off-Axis Options

Off-Axis Parabolic First Surface Metal Mirrors are available in 15°, 30°, 45°, 60° or 90° off-axis options. In-house design, manufacturing, and coating capabilities are available for custom requests, including ellipsoid shaped metal mirrors. ITAR design capabilities are also available. Off-Axis Parabolic First Surface Metal Mirrors are in-stock and available for immediate delivery for fast turnaround and excellent value.
