Octal DSP Boards transfer data at 600 MB/sec.

Press Release Summary:

Octal TMS320C6203 DSPs are 6U VME COTS boards that feature both PMC (PCI Mezzanine Card) and VIM (Velocity Interface Mezzanine) interface. VIM mezzanine delivers 1200 Mbytes/sec of I/O data directly to processors, and eight C6203 DSPs provide 19,200 MIPS peak processing power. C6203's VLIW engine executes up to 8 instructions in one 300 MHz clock cycle. DMA controllers transfer data to SDRAM and peripherals over dual 32-bit external data buses.

New Pentek Octal DSP Board Offers Breakthrough Performance for Compute-Intensive Applications

* Octal TMS320C6203 DSPs Delivers More Than 19,000 MIPS Processing Power
* Combines Industry-Standard PMC and High-Performance VIM I/O
* ReadyFlow Board Support Libraries Speed Development

UPPER RIVER SADDLE, NJ-January 21, 2002-Adding to the impressive array of high-performance, compute-intensive solutions, Pentek, Inc. today introduced a new octal DSP board based on the Texas Instruments TMS320C6203 DSP. The 6U VME COTS board features both a PMC (PCI Mezzanine Card) and VIM (Velocity Interface Mezzanine) interface. The VIM mezzanine eliminates data flow bottlenecks by delivering 1200 Mbytes/sec of I/O data directly to the processors to take maximum advantage of the 19,200 MIPS peak processing power of the eight C6203 DSPs.

The Model 4293 is ideal for compute-intensive applications such as complex modulation and demodulation tasks. Pentek's octal DSP board is also well suited for wireless base stations, beamforming and direction finding, compression and decompression, speech recognition, audio, radar, atmospheric modeling, finite element analysis and imaging.

"Not only is Pentek offering a very flexible and powerful C6000 DSP solution, they are also offering strong support for their octal board with I/O solutions like VIM and accompanying software solutions like the ReadyFlow Board Support Libraries," said Scott Huckaby, C62x product marketing manager, Texas Instruments. "These libraries streamline development tasks for the high-performance C6203 and are high-level C-callable functions making it very easy for an engineer to migrate code from earlier platforms for applications that require the additional processing power of this new board," added Huckaby.

Unprecedented Power and Performance

The advanced VLIW engine of the C6203 executes up to eight instructions in a single 300 MHz clock cycle, delivering a combined peak processing capability of 19,200 MIPS for the board. Powerful DMA controllers within the C6203 transfer data to SDRAM and peripherals over dual 32-bit external data buses at rates as high as 600 MB/sec.

High-Speed I/0 Throughput

Not only can system designers take advantage of the many VIM peripherals, the 4293 also accepts PMC modules, an ideal bridge to other vendors' products in open architecture, embedded systems.

There are nearly 20 I/O VIM and PMC modules offered by Pentek including high-speed A/D and D/A converters, software radio receivers and upconverters, user-configurable FPGAs, high-speed interfaces for FPDP and RACEway and more.

Compatible Development Tools for a Variety of Plafforms

The Model 4293 is supported by a complete software development environment including Pentek's ReadyFlow Board Support Libraries and the SwiftNet plug-in to TI's Code Composer Studio Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Other third-party and Pentek software development tools are available for a variety of workstations and embedded processor platforms running Windows 98/2000/NT, Linux, Solaris and VxWorks.

Pricing and Availability

The Pentek Model 4293 will be available in the second quarter of 2002. U.S. list price starts at $23,995.
