Ocean Pacific Marine & Boatyard Expands Market Share with New Mobile Boat Hoist

The new Marine Travelift 110-ton mobile boat hoist is the heart of Ocean Pacific's operation

STURGEON BAY, Wis. - For three years, Ocean Pacific Marine Supply & Boatyard operated its Campbell River, BC operation with a Marine Travelift 75 BFMII. Recognizing an increase in the large boat market, the company recently upgraded to a 100 metric ton Marine Travelift mobile boat hoist. The 100 BFMII is designed to handle commercial and pleasure craft vessels.

"The 100 BFMII has given us the ability to broaden our market without losing anything on the smaller end," said Bruce Kempling, president and owner of Ocean Pacific Marine Supply & Boatyard.

Located in the heart of Desolation Sound's cruising grounds, Ocean Pacific Marine Supply & Boatyard is making a mark in the world of marinas with its experienced staff and on-site services that include repairs, refits and major renovations on boats of all sizes.

"They specialize in everything from welding to fine woodwork in a modern and secure environment; as well as general marine supplies," said Dave Marshall, sales manager at Kendrick Equipment.

The 110-ton mobile boat hoist can lift boats up to 90-feet long and a 24-foot beam. The boatyard has 6,000 m² of boat parking including fully-enclosed drive-in boat sheds. Ocean Pacific Marine Supply & Boatyard is often able to perform repairs with boats still in the water using its 200-feet of working dock space, saving owners both time and money.

Ocean Pacific Marine Supply & Boatyard believes the Marine Travelift mobile boat hoist provides a higher level of service to boaters as it safely hoists vessels in and out of the water. "The design and quality of the new machine has made maintenance very efficient and less time consuming," stated Kempling.

The Marine Travelift 100 BFMII was designed and built with similar features as the on-site 75 BFMII predecessor. The optional wireless remote control increases operator visibility of the boat, launching piers and surrounding area which in turn improves both operational safety and ensures maximum maneuverability.

According to Marshall, "Ocean Pacific Marine Supply & Boatyard wanted to include 2-speed hoists and sound suppression. We also added an extra set of wider spreaders to better handle the sling position challenges on some of the unique boats they lift."

Ocean Pacific Marine Supply & Boatyard services numerous market segments including sail and power vessels, commercial fishing vessels, commercial passenger vessels and sport fishing vessels, tug boats, commercial freight vessels such as landing craft, federal and provincial government and Navy vessels.

"In order to work on government and navy vessels we have to get the machine certified every year by an engineer. The company that does the testing always comments on how well built the Marine Travelift is compared to many off shore types of equipment they see regularly," added Kempling.

Maintaining an environmentally friendly marina and boatyard is important to Ocean Pacific Marine Supply & Boatyard. The company meets or exceeds all relevant environmental regulations and its wash water is fully contained, in addition to having a comprehensive storm water management and control systems in place. "We don't want any leaking fluids to end up in the storm drains," said Bruce Kempling.

"Marine Travelift has a high degree of quality in the design and production of the mobile boat hoists. This is important because it means very little down time and the machines retain their value longer," said Kempling. "Marine Travelift and Kendrick Equipment have been great to work with."

Marine Travelift dealership Kendrick Equipment was established in 1998 by Bill and Sam Kendrick. The company represents Marine Travelift mobile boat hoists in the province of British Columbia and the states of Alaska, Washington and Oregon.

"We are proud to sell the finest mobile boat hoist produced in the world. We are also confident that our customer will benefit from the quality and reliability offered by the Marine Travelift product," said Marshall.
