NVIDIA and ASUS Deliver World's First Notebook with Windows Sideshow Secondary Display

ASUS W5Fe Notebook Utilizes NVIDIA Preface Platform to Give Consumers Fast and Easy Access to Windows SideShow

CES 2007, LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8 // -- At the 2007 International CES(R), NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) today announced that ASUS will ship a W5Fe model notebook featuring an integrated Preface secondary display. The NVIDIA Preface platform, working in conjunction with Windows Vista and Windows SideShow, enables ASUS W5Fe users instant, "always-on" access to e-mail, calendars, music, photos, and more-even when the W5Fe is powered down.

Embedded in the outer face of the ASUS W5Fe's lid, the NVIDIA Preface secondary display and media processing subsystem includes an independent set of navigation buttons for instant access to gadgets with the lid closed. The display operates on minimal power, enabling hundreds of hours of use.

"We congratulate ASUS on being first to introduce a notebook with an in-lid secondary display using NVIDIA Preface technology," said John Milner, general manager of personal media processors at NVIDIA Corporation. "ASUS is known as a technology innovator, and they've done it again with the W5Fe notebook allowing people to experience the many added productivity and entertainment benefits of Windows SideShow."

"The ASUS W5Fe notebook is a peek into the future of portable computing," said Raymond Chen, vice president of marketing in North America for ASUS. "The always-on convenience of the ASUS W5Fe with Preface makes the notebook that much more integral to our daily lives."

SideShow devices communicate with the main PC via mini-applications called gadgets, which retrieve critical data from hard drives or online information sources. Several gadgets will ship with Windows Vista, such as e-mail and calendars, and many more will be available for download on the Microsoft Gadget Web site. NVIDIA Preface also includes SideShow gadgets that interoperate with the built-in Music Player and Picture Viewer, both of which operate even when the host PC is powered down.
