NTM Sensors Receives U.S. Department of Energy Funding to Develop Sensor for NOX Emissions Monitoring

NTM Sensors, a division of NexTech Materials, Ltd., is pleased to announce that it has been awarded funding by the U.S. Department of Energy to develop an exhaust NOX sensor for improved monitoring of diesel exhaust after treatment systems.  NTM Sensors' technology leverages a unique electro-catalytic effect to rapidly and selectively measure NOX at very low concentrations in combustion exhaust streams.  The sensor offers a substantial advantage in both detection resolution and response time over commercial NOX sensors, with a targeted range of 1 to 1000 ppm and response time of less than 200 milliseconds.  In this project, NTM Sensors will leverage its NOX sensing technology to develop a low cost device for accurate quantification of total NOX emissions in diesel passenger cars and heavy duty trucks.

"NTM Sensors is pleased to have our NOX sensor technology selected for further development by the U.S. Department of Energy.  We are excited to be participating in the development of technology that enables continued reduction of environmentally harmful emissions and extremely gratified that DOE has placed their confidence in us to deliver on this project," says Dr. Lora Thrun, Director of Operations.

With increasingly stringent regulation of nitrogen oxide emissions, there is a world-wide need for better NOX sensor products.  Environmental regulation, especially in areas of severe NOX non-attainment areas such as in Southern California and Texas, are driving demand for improved NOX abatement and monitoring technology for diesel transportation, off-road, and industrial markets.  The technology developed in this project will result in a sensor with improved performance and lower cost than commercial sensors, enabling lower emissions and improved competitive pricing to vehicle and equipment manufacturers.
