NSA Certifies Sectéra® Wireline Terminals to Secure Classified Fax Documents Using Commercial Fax Machines

January 2008

Simple software upgrade enables existing Secure Wireline Terminal to send and
receive classified information.

Product Name: Sectera Wireline Terminal

The National Security Agency (NSA) has certified a software upgrade for the General Dynamics Sectera
Wireline Terminal (SWT) devices to fax information that is classified or sensitive but unclassified using
commercial, group-three fax machines. With the software upgrade, more than 36,000 SWT and Black
Digital Interface (BDI) devices can safely send and receive classified documents without the use of
expensive, specialized fax machines. To ensure interoperability, both sending and receiving fax machines

which, along with the ability to secure voice and data using digital or analog telephones and personal
computers, maintains interoperability with Secure Communications Interoperability Protocol (SCIP)
devices.
