Novera Optics Expands Korea Telecom Engagement with New 30,000-Line DWDM PON Deployment in Q1/2007

Addition Increases Number of Lines to More Than 100,000

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 14 / -- Korea Telecom, the largest communications carrier in Korea, has launched a new deployment of DWDM PON technology from Novera Optics with advanced OAM (Operation, Administration and Maintenance) features. The new deployment will support Korea Telecom's broadband subscribers, and increase the total number of Novera-supported Korea Telecom lines to more than 100,000.

Novera Optics' DWDM transport technologies are being deployed by Korea Telecom for Internet and data services through Novera's SpeedLIGHT(TM) platform.

"Korea Telecom's deployment of additional lines shows their confidence in our DWDM technology," said Bernd Hesse, vice president of marketing and business development at Novera Optics. "In the last year and a half they have deployed over 100,000 lines over a SpeedLIGHT transport platform. During that period, our technology has proven its ability to provide Korea Telecom's customers with the bandwidth they need. In addition, the platform is scalable and offers an easy upgrade path to meet their customers' needs in the future."

Implementing DWDM PON point-to-point bidirectional optical links through a single feeder fiber, SpeedLIGHT provides Korea Telecom with an easy upgrade path, symmetrical bandwidth (downstream and upstream), and multiprotocol transparency for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) applications.

As a transport platform for fiber-to-the-x (FTTx) deployments, SpeedLIGHT greatly improves the ability of service providers to deliver the bandwidth their customers need now and in the future. Using Novera Optics Lambda-PON(TM) (Lambda-PON) DWDM FTTx technology, SpeedLIGHT eliminates the need for expensive, wavelength-specific optical network units (ONUs) and does away with the problems of bandwidth sharing, bandwidth upgrades, and mixed-service delivery on a passive optical network (PON).

About Novera Optics Inc.

Novera Optics is focused on developing low-cost, high-performance optical access solutions to overcome the bandwidth bottlenecks in last-mile networks. Its advancements in developing Wavelength Division Multiplexed transport technologies are positioning Novera Optics as a leader in cutting-edge enhanced performance solutions for FTTx applications.

Novera Optics' next-generation transport platform is predicated on four features: (i) simplicity of setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of colorless optical networking units; (ii) security -- thanks to its point- to-point optical connections and top-flight QoS; (iii) scalability with future bit-rate updates and ability to deliver mixed bit-rates from Mbps to Gbps per each wavelength; and (iv) service independency that offers increased revenue opportunities with mixed-service capabilities over a single infrastructure.

Founded in 1999, Novera Optics has an office in Santa Clara, Calif., and a wholly owned subsidiary in Daejeon, South Korea. For more information please contact +1 408 496 6550, extension 303.
