Sony Introduces Industry's First Pentium 4-Powered Ultra-Portable Notebook PC
Next Generation of Successful VAIO 505 Line Packs Wireless Access, Onboard Optical Into Newly Designed Package
LAS VEGAS, (CES, Booth #N109), Jan. 8, 2003 _ Sony's new VAIO® PCG-V505 series includes an integrated DVD/CD-RW combo drive and wireless capability in one of the lightest Pentium® 4 notebooks available.
Since the VAIO 505 platform was first introduced in 1997, it has been a steady award winner for style and performance. The V505 series, available in February, lives up to that heritage. It's Sony's first slim, two-spindle notebook to have a 12-inch display and a Mobile Intel® Pentium 4 processor up to 2.2 GHz, all in a svelte magnesium alloy casing that weighs just under 4.5 pounds. The optional port replicator is Sony's first to offer DVI-D output for connection to digital displays.
"This notebook has the most ever built into in an ultra-portable PC," said Mark Hanson, vice president and general manager of VAIO PC marketing. "Road warriors now have the perfect traveling companion for DVD entertainment and high performance computing all in one envy-inspiring package."
More than Just a Pretty Face
Sony's exclusive multimedia software suite comes standard with the VAIO V505 to help users make the most of digital music, photographs and video. With the included PictureGear Studio(TM), MovieShaker(TM) and SonicStage(TM) applications, business travelers can integrate video and music into a presentation and burn it onto a CD, whether they are behind a desk or on a plane. And a wealth of connectivity options, including two USB ports, a Memory Stick® media slot, and an i.LINK® (IEEE1394) digital interface remove the hassle from transferring and sharing digital content among a universe of compatible products.
VAIO Media(TM) software, available on all current VAIO PCs, provides a simple gateway for accessing digital content on a home network. With optional integrated Wi-Fi or a wireless LAN card, the notebook can be used as a remote viewer of digital photos or video stored on a VAIO desktop server located elsewhere in the home or as a portable jukebox for an MP3 library archived on the desktop's hard drive.
The retail model, V505AX notebook, will sell for about $1,900. Other configurations will be available online in February at www.sonystyle.com.
