Our customer manufactures pistons and required a way to hold the irregular surface on the OD of the as-cast piston so they could turn the piston's crown.

We came up with a set of Subjaws permanently mounted to the chuck's master jaws (T-shaped in the photo) which contain Changeable Serrated Insert Pads which allowed them to grip the piston very securely as the toothed serrations slightly bite into the part's OD while they perform their first operation for machining this part.

The center of this chuck has a locating pad (not shown) secured with a screw to locate the upper inside cavity of the piston for a repeatable stop surface.

This chuck is also an "Autolube" chuck which is a setup including a remotely-located oil reservoir tank and all hardware to facilitate a foolproof way to keep the chuck automatically lubricated. This feature can be had on almost all of our chucks at your request.
