Non-Contact Laser is designed for gauging applications.

Press Release Summary:

Able to be networked with up to 150 different sensors by connecting to Orbit 3 digital measurement system, Orbit® LTH non-contact laser triangulation unit delivers 0.02 FS reading over 2 or 10 mm measurement ranges. This yields accuracy up to .05 µm with 2 mm stroke. Sensor's auto-gain circuitry adjusts power based on feedback from material, and operation may be switched between diffuse and specular modes to measure reflective and non-reflective materials.

High-Precision Non-Contact Laser for Diffuse and Specular Gauging Applications

New AMETEK Solartron Metrology Orbit® LTH networks with up to 150 other devices through Orbit 3 system

A non-contact laser for fast, high-performance gauging has been introduced by AMETEK Solartron Metrology (www.solartronmetrology.com). The new Orbit® LTH laser triangulation unit delivers 0.02 F.S. (full scale) reading over 2 or 10 mm measurement ranges. This yields accuracy up to .05 µm with the 2 mm stroke. The laser can be networked with as many as 150 different sensors by connecting to Solartron’s Orbit 3 digital measurement system.

Applications include high-volume gauging for quality control of metal and plastic products that could be damaged by contact measurement instruments.

The sensor’s auto-gain circuitry adjusts power based on feedback from the material, providing better readings on difficult surfaces. It can switch between diffuse and specular modes to measure reflective and non-reflective materials. A bridging function can be programmed to account for drop-offs in materials with gaps or holes.

Multiple outputs are available, including USB, Ethernet, TCP, RS232 and Modbus.
