Kalray Announces Most Advanced Solution for Network Virtualization at Linley Data Center Conference

Fully programmable MPPA® Bostan-N processor to deliver more than 3000 instructions per packet at 80GbE full duplex line rate

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Kalray, the inventor of supercomputing on a chip(TM) for intensive and embedded computing applications, today announced its new MPPA2®256 core processor, the most advanced solution optimized for the data center network interface card (NIC).

Data networks today must be able to scale easily and rapidly due to the huge and rapidly growing amount of data transfer. In order to meet these demands, the data plane of the data center NIC needs to be both flexible and high performing. Current solutions provide either flexibility or performance/cost efficiency, but not both. Kalray's Bostan-N processor, derived from the second generation of its proven MPPA® massively parallel manycore architecture, delivers an unmatched combination of benefits for the data center NIC that includes 256 C/C++ fully programmable cores, 2x 40GbE/8x10GbE line rate performance, and less than half the power consumption of the nearest competitor.

"Programmable NIC is necessary to effectively keep pace with managing the complexities of transferring data efficiently," said Eric Baissus, CEO of Kalray. "Our patented, deterministic manycore processor architecture is the best solution for implementing rapidly network and storage virtualization."

Samples of Bostan-N will be available this May. Production is expected in the fourth quarter of 2015.
