NeoPath Networks Announces Next-Generation FD-220 File Director, Industry's Most Advanced Network File Management Solution

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.-Aug. 9, 2005-NeoPath Networks, a leading provider of network file management (NFM) solutions, today announced the FD-220 File Director(TM), the industry's most advanced NFM appliance designed for tiered storage environments. The FD-220 File Director is the only product to offer real-time file characterization, policy-based file management, file migration (even during client access), and namespace virtualization for transparency. The NeoPath File Director allows customers to optimize file storage management, reduce the cost of ownership and accelerate the return on their IT investment.

NeoPath also announced today that it has entered into a strategic partnership with SANZ, a nationwide data storage consulting and integration firm based in Englewood, Colorado. SANZ has already deployed NeoPath File Director appliances at a number of customer sites including Real Networks, a leading global provider of network-delivered digital audio and video services. NeoPath solutions have been deployed across leading verticals including digital media, biotech, semiconductor and manufacturing.

"After evaluating NFM vendors, we chose NeoPath as our strategic partner because of the superior architecture, robust functionality and industry-leading performance of the FD-220," said George Crump, chief technical officer, SANZ. "We have several joint customer installations under-our-belt, including Real Networks, and we are seeing strong interest from additional customers in our installed-base. The NeoPath architecture avoids the inherent risks of hopping in-band and out-of-band and eliminates the scalability and interoperability headaches associated with proprietary file systems."

Until now, consolidating servers, moving content, and adding capacity to file servers and NAS devices has been difficult, involving countless overtime hours. With the NeoPath FD-220 File Director, however, a system administrator can migrate an entire directory or individual files between file servers at any time - even while the files are being read and written-to by users or applications. The File Director appliance allows customers to understand their file usage patterns and automatically align active and static data with the appropriate underlying storage resources.

"Users want a network file management solution that transparently scales and utilizes existing resources in the most efficient way possible," said Arun Taneja, founder and consulting analyst, Taneja Group. "They want a solution that can not only manage the lifecycle of the data all the way to archive, but can also see, manage and migrate individual files based on business requirements. NeoPath delivers just what the doctor ordered."

The NeoPath FD-220 appliance triples performance versus its predecessor, providing the industry's highest throughput in its class. The new product also offers industry-leading, robust features for NAS storage consolidation and tiered storage utilization. This provides optimized performance and recaptures stranded capacity across existing storage servers, while simultaneously reducing back-up and storage administration costs.

"We are excited to deliver the FD-220 File Director, combining the industry's highest performance and NFM functionality - which is resulting in the strong adoption of our solution across a number of leading markets. Our strategic relationship with SANZ provides us with extended reach across North America and gives our customers the superior storage expertise and services for which SANZ is known," said Alan Baratz, CEO, NeoPath Networks. "This partnership allows us to expand into new markets and quickly address the growing demand for our NFM solutions."
