NextCOMputing Uses Fujitsu Hard Disk Drives to Stuff a Workstation into a Briefcase

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 7 /-- Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., one of the world's leading suppliers of hard disk drives and computer peripherals and NextCOM (NextCOMputing), a leading provider of high performance mobile servers and workstations, today announced a collaborative relationship leveraged to introduce the FleXtreme NextDimension, first in an anticipated "new class" of mobile high performance systems, which can be used as both a server and a workstation. NextCOM chose to incorporate Fujitsu state-of-the-art 2.5" Serial ATA (SATA) and 2.5" Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard disk drives into the system to achieve top-notch performance and capacity with outstanding reliability.

The FleXtreme NextDimension is a mobile, reconfigurable, high-capacity computing solution ideal for industries, such as digital animation, software development, data streaming for security, or seismic data analysis. As digital graphics technology becomes more powerful, the need for massive computing power and storage capacity has become a top priority. NextCOM harnessed the offerings of Fujitsu hard disk drives to offer maximum power and flexibility while producing less heat and reducing space, weight, and power requirements, all critical considerations for mobile servers.

The flexible FleXtreme platform can support this wide variety of applications due to customizable configurations that support anywhere from two to eight 80GB 2.5" SATA hard disk drives -- giving the end user over half a terabyte of potential storage capacity. Alternate configurations can support up to five Fujitsu SAS hard disk drives, the industry's first 2.5" small form factor (SFF) SAS interface with storage capacities up to 73GB and the dependability for demanding 24x7 enterprise applications.

The FleXtreme NextDimension also utilizes an abundance of cutting edge technologies including a high-capacity PCI Express 16x bus that can transfer up to 8GB/s between components, and dual, dual-core Opteron(TM) processors from AMD for Quad processing capability in one chassis. Together, these technologies eliminate bottlenecks and take full advantage of the high-speed data transfer rate of Fujitsu SATA and SAS hard disk drives. The dual-core AMD Opteron processors also provide high-performance computing and support simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no loss in performance. When combined with the hot pluggable 2.5" SAS hard disk drive and the SFF SATA Fujitsu hard disk drive, the configuration allows a seamless migration into the future of computing.
