NextComputing Portable Servers Now Support Massive Internal Storage Arrays Using LSI High Port-Count SAS/SATA RAID Controller Cards

Nashua, N.H. - NextComputing, a leader in high-performance portable and small form-factor servers and workstations, is now integrating and supporting the latest line of LSI(TM) 6Gb/s SATA+SAS high-port count storage controllers, including the LSI MegaRAID® SAS 9260-16i RAID controller. By offering this cutting edge storage controller technology from LSI, NextComputing can pack massive internal storage arrays into its family of briefcase-sized portable servers, including the recently announced NextDimension Evo Plus.

As a manufacturer of compact and densely designed servers and workstations, NextComputing is continually challenged with delivering very high computing performance in the smallest form-factors available for its customers in such demanding fields as network monitoring, digital forensics, and video recording. The applications these users often run on NextComputing systems typically involve the capture and manipulation of very high bandwidth data streams, such as 10G network traffic or multiple streams of uncompressed HD video, so the speed and reliability of the system's internal storage arrays is extremely important.

For these reasons, NextComputing has long trusted LSI to provide the back-bone RAID controller technology to support its customers' most difficult storage challenges. With the latest line of LSI 6Gb/s SATA+SAS high-port count RAID controllers, users can achieve high sustained read and write speeds not previously attainable.

For example, using a single LSI MegaRAID SAS 9260-16i controller for direct connections of to up to 16 high-speed Hitachi(TM) 6G SAS drives has opened up new business opportunities for NextComputing's OEM and end-user customers who require storage performance comparable to a traditional rackmounted server or storage device, but in a more transportable package. Systems like the compact NextDimension Evo Plus, when configured as mentioned above, are capable of achieving sustained read/write speeds upwards of 800MB/s - a performance threshold unheard of in any portable system.

"LSI is the industry leader in RAID controller technology, and we're excited to work with NextComputing to integrate our new high-port count 6Gb/s SATA+SAS RAID controller cards into their high-speed portable systems," said Suresh Panikar, senior manager, worldwide channel marketing, LSI. "NextComputing's support of our high port count RAID controllers allows them to offer truly differentiated products to meet their customers' unique storage requirements."
