Newly Designed Larger Vertical Trim Press Shipped to Food Packaging Supplier

Brown Machine LLC, NPE 2006 News (Booth #S1409)

Beaverton, MI - Brown Machine LLC announces a recent shipment of a T-358V Vertical
Trim Press to a leading food packaging producer. The company will integrate the trim press into a thermoforming system to deliver pre-counted stacks of PP products that will be directly packaged.

Vertical trim presses are designed principally for parts that nest and stack well, thus
allowing perimeter trim, counting, accumulation and transfer of pre-counted stacks of
products. This T-358V Trim Press is the first with a larger sheet width of 58" and was
provided with a stroke configuration of 7 ½" & 10 ½" providing speeds up to 100 strokes per minute (SPM) with parts up to 5" deep and 80 SPM on parts up to 7" deep. A second configuration is available with 4" & 6" strokes with operating speeds up to 150 SPM on a maximum depth part of 2 ½" and 120 SPM on parts up to 4".

The machine incorporates a servo-driven continuous bell crank platen motion
movement and is precisely guided on four corner guided linear rails with eight linear bearings, and offers side load capabilities of 30" between the rails. A short power canopy is utilized to present the material inventory to the feed. To accurately guide and feed the formed web, the feed and treadle mechanism features a servo flex feed system for precise acceleration, deceleration and stroke length, and has quick change capabilities (servo nip wheel feed systems are also available). Trimmed part ejection is accomplished using a swing-thru servo ejector system. The ejector offers three modes of operation: a) short ejection each product stroke, b) short ejection each product stroke with swing-thru long ejection at a pre-set product count for counter ejector capabilities, and c) swing-thru long ejection each product stroke. Counted stacks of parts are accumulated and then discharged from the trim press by a
conveyor lift assembly which removes the product from the die area and transfers it out of the press for packaging.

Standard controls incorporate Brown's new Series 4.0 Controls with the Operator
Interface incorporating non-proprietary National Instruments Lookout software. Menu-based color displays provide ease of navigation and machine control throughout the HMI. This machine control incorporates multi-axis motion control for the main drive, feed and eject servo systems, and PLC control for the remaining machine functions. The independent press PC allows stand-alone operation.

This press can also be configured to operate as an intermediate trim press for prepunch
applications.

This model is part of a newly redesigned line of in-line thermoformers and trim presses:
o CS-5454 Thermoformer: 54" x 54" mold size capacity, 58" max. sheet width /
(paired with a T358L Horizontal or T358V Vertical Trim Press: 58" max sheet width)
o CS-6464 Thermoformer: 64" x 64" mold size capacity, 68" max. sheet width
(paired with a T368L Horizontal or T368V Vertical Trim Press: 68" max sheet width)
o CS-7070 Thermoformer: 70" x 70" mold size capacity, 74" max. sheet width
(paired with a T374L Horizontal or T374V Vertical Trim Press: 74" max sheet width)

Leaders in Trim Press technology
With both V-Series vertical and T-Series horizontal trim press configurations designed
to meet your specific application, Brown offers the widest selection in trim press technology. In addition to the V-Series presses that can be used as either an intermediate or full perimeter trim press, Brown offers linear guide flywheel driven horizontal standard L-Models, or our LP and LDP Models that incorporate an extended stroke for deep draw products requiring progressive trim applications, and our servo driven LS-Model that has the capability of slowing down for a controlled long ejection into product handling systems, speed up to make up the loop, and then maintain cycle time with the thermoformer.
