Creform K9 Tite-Space AGV with Kitting Cart…This Puppy is No Dog

Creform BST AGV Tugger with opportunity charging and kitting cart for work-in-process operations

Greer, SC—Creform Corporation engineers have designed and built a compact Tite-Space BST AGV with kitting cart that provides a manufacturer with the ability for presenting a specific kit of parts in order to increase production and process efficiencies.

The Creform BST AGV, Model CA-250060-NSI-K9 works as an automated tugger, traveling along a magnetic tape guidepath, slipping under the stationary cart, extending a tow pin into the cart’s frame and then conveying it to a designated workstation or unload point.

This unit has the functionality of a Creform BST-NSI, but in a compact package. The AGV offers a sophisticated programmable control system and can control 50 courses with up to 128 commands for each. Course programming can be accomplished with a PC or HMI touch screen and programs can be downloaded via USB memory, ethernet cable or RF. The Category 2 safety features include: Audible warning and flashing light, obstacle sensor, non-contact laser bumper and emergency stop

The AGV is powered by a 24-volt system with two 12v AGM batteries. With an Opportunity Charging system, that extends off the back as an add-on module, the system provides for an optical communication between the AGV and battery charging station. The vehicle pulls into charging position, signals its presence, lowers the charging probe to contact the conductor plates embedded in the floor and turns on the charger for a quick battery boost.

With each circuit of the guidepath, batteries are automatically charged by just pulling into the charging station positioned along the route. No human intervention is necessary.

Options to the system include remote start via data transmitter at home station, radio communications to integrate with a Creform traffic control system, as well as preventative maintenance program to ensure reliable operations.

The kitting cart holds parts pulled from the supermarket storage area to create a production kit with a specific selectiong of parts that offers production and process efficiencies in manufacturing. The cart has a 28 in. x 40 in. footprint and is designed to hold up to 500 lb.

Creform built kitting carts provide for various methods of handling inventory. In the cart pictured, three levels of pegs hold parts for presentation in the production area. Parts are supported on pegs made from Creform pipes and joints and covered with cushioning vinyl for damage free handling and easy load/unload.

As with all Creform carts, higher capacity and custom cart sizes and configurations are possible with the Creform system of 28 mm, 32 mm and 42 mm plastic coated steel pipes and metal joints. They can be configured for ESD (anti-static) applications

A wide variety of pipe color options are available and multiple colors can be implemented for department or product identification. The modular design of Creform carts allows the user to add only the accessories needed.

The Creform System is used to create an array of material handling and efficiency enhancing devices and is a proven component in continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing programs. The company partners with customers in developing and implementing these programs.
