Original Press Release:

New! Three-axis Gimbal Mount with Three-Phase Brushless Servo Motors has Higher Resolution and Speed!

Van Nuys, CA - The New AU300-AER-02 Three-axis Gimbal Mount from OES (Optimal Engineering Systems, Inc.) with Three-Phase Brushless Servo Motors and Quadrature Incremental Encoders features very high resolution and high speed. Each axis features: Low backlash worm gear drives and precision "V" groove and cross roller bearings for high accuracy and repeatability.

The typical accuracy is 0.05° equal to 180 arcsec and typical repeatability is +/- 0.01° equal to +/- 36 arcsec. The maximum travel speed of each axis is 45° per second. This new three-axis gimbal mount handles loads up to 10 kg (22 lbs) and has a clearance of 300 mm x 300 mm (11.8 in. x 11.8 in.) around the roll axis stage and each stage is capable of the full 360° rotation of its axis. The azimuth axis rotary table is mounted on a large 360 mm (14.173 in.) x 360 mm (14.173 in.) x 13 mm (0.512 in.) plate with handles and has predrilled accessible mounting holes for easy integration into new or existing applications and for increased stability. The roll axis table measures 100 mm (3.937 in.) in diameter. The AU300-AER-02 Three-axis Gimbal Mount is ideal for mounting: cameras, optics, lasers and instrumentation for scanning, tracking, positioning, pointing, and other applications.

The three axes of the new AU300-AER-02 Three-axis Gimbal Mount, azimuth, elevation, and roll axes, are driven by Three-Phase Brushless Servo Motors with Quadrature Incremental Encoders for closed loop servo operation. The AU300-AER-01 is supplied with Two-Phase Stepper Motors. Optional optical encoders for position verification are available. Electrical connections are made using three 9 pin DB-9 connectors.

The AU300-AER-02 (Servo) and the AU300-AER-01 (Stepper) Motorized Three-axis Gimbal Mount can be ordered as a complete plug-and-play system with a multi-axis controller, joystick, trackball, or keypad, and with a 30 mm through hole in the roll stage.
