New Technology Replaces Linear Spring / Shock Impact Absorption and Proves Useful in Several Industry Applications

Perth, Australia - RIAS Technologies have developed a disruptive technology with the ability to replace linear spring / shock combination within a single rotational unit that improves performance by overcoming limitations apparent in linear designs (bottoming out and narrow operating angle) and reduces maintenance as it delivers enhanced suspension, impact absorption, overload protection, vibration, resistance and noise control solutions.

Announcing Riasorb® - an environmentally friendly (lubrication free) innovation that applies rotational shear on specially designed elastomers incorporated in a proprietary bushing design to effectively deliver a tailored, active and controlled reaction in direct proportion to the speed and force of any impact. Although elastomeric material has previously been used to absorb energy and react to force, the new technology goes beyond linear compression and utilizes the properties of an elastomer in shear resulting from torsional resistance, rather than compression. This exploits the natural properties of the elastomer and broadens the potential applications. A bearing incorporated in the design forces uniform shear, fully utilizing the elastomer, and enhances the characteristics of the elastomer by forcing it to stay concentric to the shaft, preventing compression set (creep).

Riasorb® has proven to have significant technical and practical benefits over existing suspension systems. Importantly, the new technology is unique in that it can fulfill many functions including suspension (combined shock absorption and damping), vibration control and overload protection - all in one compact mechanism that requires no lubrication. Riasorb® is lightweight, is more effective at preventing dangerous or catastrophic failure of equipment, is able to operate in wide ranging temperature and environmental conditions, cancels vibration and noise, has lower maintenance requirements (due to less moving parts) and is generally more versatile than traditional solutions.

General Manager, Troy Keenan, comments, "Our clients have welcomed this innovation that has literally solved their technological challenges by combining both resistance and damping within one solution. Riasorb® technology has been successfully incorporated into the unmanned aviation (UAV), materials handling (castors) and cycling industries and we now have development programs underway for applications in defense, medical and automotive. The many technological benefits offered by Riasorb® can easily be applied to aviation, aerospace, mining, rail and much more."
