Creative Proteomics Lipidomics Launches Steroids Analysis Service

Lipidomics, a platform developed by Creative Proteomics, is dedicated to providing cutting-edge mass spectrometry (MS)-based lipidomics services for biomedical research institutions, and biotechnological and pharmaceutical companies. Creative Proteomics Lipidomicslaunched the steroid analysis service capable of quantifying up to 38 steroids in biological matrices such as plasma, serum, tissue, cells, and cell culture media.

Steroids are organic compounds with four rings arranged in a specific conformation, such as dietary lipid cholesterol, estradiol, testosterone, and dexamethasone. They are an important component of cell membranes, many of which are signaling molecules. The core structure of steroids consists of seventeen carbon atoms bound in four "fused" rings: three six-membered cyclohexane rings and one five-membered cyclopentane ring. Hundreds of steroids are found in plants, animals and fungi. All steroids are made in cells by the sterols lanolin (animal and fungal) or cyclic artemisinol (plant). Lanosterol and cycloartenol are derived from the cyclization of the triterpene squalene.

As an important part of the endocrine system, endogenous steroid hormones play an indispensable role in the development of the body, immune regulation and birth control. Accurate determination of steroid hormone levels is important for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of endocrine diseases.

The analysis of steroid hormones and related compounds is challenging due to the extremely similar chemical structures of many compounds that give rise to multiple isotopic interferences. Isotopic substances are chemically similar and require effective chromatographic separation prior to selective analysis. “We have developed a rapid and targeted LC-MS/MS method to achieve effective separation of substances by extending chromatographic run times, derivatization, or using multiple targeted analytical methods. It can be used for the quantitative and semi-quantitative analysis of up to 38 endogenous steroids in biological matrices,” commented Creative Proteomics’s senior scientist.

“Creative Proteomics is equipped with advanced liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole mass spectrometers for steroid analysis service (Triple Quad™ 6500 LC-MS/MS System). With highly specialized technical capabilities and professional knowledge of mass spectrometry personnel, we are fully prepared to cooperate in the rapidly developing field of lipidomics, and at the same time support your research from research design to the final report,” he further added.

After years of technical accumulation, the Lipidomics platform is equipped with advanced instruments, including GC-MS, LC-MS, LC-MS/MS, shot-gun, MALDI-MS, etc. In order to increase detection efficiency and guarantee the quality and reproducibility of experimental data, Creative Proteomics develops experimental protocols in accordance with client requirements and chooses various technical approaches. A detailed report is provided at the end of the entire project, including experimental procedures, MS/MS instrument parameters, raw data and bioinformatics analysis to help you find the differentiated lipid molecules.
