New Static Tacking Systems Enhance Line Speeds at Publishers Press

Electrostatic tacking systems help company optimize high-speed finishing equipment, increase productivity.

(Windsor Locks, Conn.) - Publishers Press, one of the industry's largest printers and distributors of standard, digest and tabloid magazines, recently purchased nine complete Matrix Charging Systems for use in controlling magazine stacks leaving the incline stackers. The charging systems from MKS, Ion Industrial deliver a powerful electrostatic charge needed to keep magazines tacked together in a uniform stack as they speed out of incline stackers on the way to final bundling.

Publishers Press reports that the new charging systems are responsible for improving line speeds to over 360 books per minute and a half million publications per day on one bindery line alone. "This is now the fastest line in our plant," states Frank
Carmen, bindery projects manager. "The new static tacking solution has helped increase line speed and improve the quality of final bundles needed to meet post office requirements."

Since installing the incline stacker tacking systems, Publishers Press has also purchased and installed two complete electrostatic card tacking solutions from MKS, Ion Industrial for use with the bindery department's blown-in card systems. The company presently has eight more MKS card tacking systems on order.
