Norristown, Pa. August 2019 – Megger now offers a single, handheld dedicated static motor tester that can perform multiple tests. Its multifunction capabilities include insulation resistance tester, motor rotation testers, DLRO, multimeters and LCR meter. The MTR105 combines all of the functions frequently used when testing electric motors.

This new tester, designed for use in the service, OEM, utility, industrial and transport markets, takes the testing abilities of Megger’s proven insulation resistance test instruments and adds in the DLRO four wire Kelvin low resistance test, inductance and capacitance tests to provide users with a versatile unit.

The MTR105 is a compact, multi-function test set that is lightweight and easy-to-use. It features a fully automated three phase connection so that testing can be performed seamlessly with no need to reconnect the unit for each phase to phase measurement. It also features temperature correction for insulation resistance testing. The unit includes a guard terminal that helps to eliminate the effects of surface leakage and delivers accurate results in harsh environments thanks to improved diagnostics.

The tester provides simple, intuitive navigation and a clear display to view test results. All major functions are selected using a single rotary dial on the instrument. The MTR105 includes an internal memory that can store up to 100 test results. These results can be recalled on the full color graphic display or be downloaded to a standard USB drive.

Insulation resistance testing can be performed at user-selectable voltages from 10 V to 1,000 V. The unit also supports PI, DAR and timed sets, which can provide additional information about insulation condition.

For low resistance testing, the MTR105 offers a single continuous range from 0.01 Ω to 1.0 MΩ for continuity measurement. It supports four-wire testing from .001 Ω to 10 Ω and has a bi-directional test option that automatically reverses the current without the need to reconnect the test leads. Users can select a test current of 20 mA or 200 mA. A continuity buzzer function, with an adjustable threshold is also included.

The MTR105 is suitable for use in CAT III applications at supply voltages up to 600 V. It incorporates an extensive range of features, including live circuit detection and test inhibit features for insulation testing and continuity measurements, as well as default display of live circuit voltage on all ranges, to maximize user safety and to protect it against accidental damage. These detection and inhibit functions continue to operate even if the instrument’s internal protection fuse has failed.

The MTR105 offers an almost indestructible weatherproof case with an IP54 ingress protection rating that includes the battery and fuse compartments. A shock-absorbing rubber over-moulding provides further protection.

The MTR105 comes complete with leads and a variety of clamps and probes for insulation testing, and with a Kelvin-clip lead set for use when making four-wire low-resistance measurements.
