Applied Motion Products Introduces New Series of StepSERVOâ„¢ Drives with More Digital I/O Points Such as Secondary Encoder Inputs

Watsonville, CA…October 15, 2019… Applied Motion Products introduces the SSDC Series of StepSERVO™ Drives that offer more digital inputs and outputs (I/O) than its integrated motor counterparts, such as secondary encoder inputs for dual position-loop control. SSDC StepSERVO Drives are separate, non-integrated drives that, when paired with existing StepSERVO Motors, can reduce replacement costs for individual motors and provide convenient wiring options for users with sufficient space in control cabinets.

SSDC StepSERVO Drives offer full closed-loop servo control of step motors, creating a more efficient and higher-performance motion control system. StepSERVO Drives and Motors provide peak torque at low speed and faster acceleration rates, reduce current in the motor for smoother and quieter operation, and consume less power than traditional step motor systems.

SSDC StepSERVO Drives are offered with two base power levels:

  • SSDC03 drives provide 3.0 A/phase peak-of-sine to the motor, are optimized for use with 24 volts DC supply voltage, and can be paired with NEMA 11 frame StepSERVO Motors.
  • SSDC10 drives provide 10.0 A/phase peak-of sine to the motor, are optimized for use with 48 volts DC supply voltage, and can be paired with NEMA 17, 23, 24 and 34 frame StepSERVO Motors.

The SSDC drives come with a range of communication options including EtherNet/IP, Modbus and SCL over Ethernet or RS-485. These models all feature dual-port communications for daisy-chain networking and can run stored Q programs stand-alone. SSDC models for use as drive devices on EtherCAT and CANopen networks are also available, with functionality to execute stored Q programs using manufacturer specific CANopen objects. Every SSDC drive features 8 digital inputs, 4 digital outputs, and 2 analog inputs, as well encoder outputs and secondary encoder inputs.
