Explosion-proof low-voltage Simotics XP Chemstar low-voltage motors are used in machines and applications such as pumps, compressors, fans, extruders, agitators and separators.

Based on many decades of experience and expertise in explosion protection, Siemens has united its classic Chemstar product range with the properties of its proven Simotics XP low-voltage motor platform. The new generation of motors are available in a range from 0.25 to 500 kilowatts (kW) covering the ignition protection spectrum for zones 1, 2, 21 and 22 in Ex db, Ex eb, Ex ec, Ex tb and Ex tc. The motors are made with a highly robust design comprising an enclosure and bearing plates in grey cast iron and a fan cover in steel. The high level of efficiency (class IE3) and easy-maintenance design mean low operating costs for the user. A number of pre-defined industry-specific options are available such as special coatings with category C4 high-level corrosion protection, stainless steel screws and bolts or extended warranty periods which enable these motors to be used in the chemical or oil and gas sectors, with the option to add freely selectable features such as reduced start-up current, motor monitoring, reinforced bearings or tropical climate versions with paint finish versions up to category C5-M for offshore applications. The standardized documentation is flexibly configured to allow adaptation to both simple and highly complex projects.

With its integrated Simotics XP platform for explosion-proof motors, Siemens offers a reliable, simple and rapid solution to the achievement of greater safety. With its technically seamless concept, the motor series covers all kinds of potentially explosive zones. They are available for either mains or converter-fed operation and in various efficiency classes up to IE3 without jumps in shaft height, while ensuring environmentally low-impact operation and a rapid return on investment.
