New Rotomolded Fuel Tank Earns EPA, CARB Certification

MOD Unveils Multi-Layer Approach That Meets Vapor Permeation Standards

Ashtabula, OH: A new fuel tank from custom rotational molding and design firm Meese Orbitron Dunne Co. (MOD), Ashtabula, Ohio (www.Rotomolding.com) has earned EPA and CARB (California Air Resources Board) certification for meeting the Agency's stringent Title 40: Part 1060 standard covering fuel vapor permeation from tanks in watercraft, recreational vehicles, lawn and garden equipment and other non-road and stationary equipment. Featuring a proprietary design with two layers of polyethylene separated by a barrier layer of ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH), the new fuel tank replaces cumbersome, five- and seven-layer plastic fuel tanks with a streamlined design that effectively complies with the regulations yet may be manufactured more quickly and at reduced cost.

Rotationally molded in a single piece, the new fuel tank offers superior impact strength versus metal tanks and eliminates their potential for leaks at welds, seams and fastening points while also saving versus blowmolded tanks on tooling costs to permit viable production in short runs. Ideal for manufacturers interested in reducing product weight, cutting the parts count, speeding production and improving safety, the new fuel tank may be custom designed and rotomolded to fit nearly any size, shape or space and is available in a choice of colors and finishes for exterior placement where visual appeal is paramount.
