Original Press Release:

DewAir’s RH-Cube 18 Dehumidifier Reduces A/C Costs and Increases Indoor Air Comfort

RH-Cube 18 is the HVAC industry’s first split-system dehumidifier to use a counter- flow heat exchanger for moisture removal and heat recovery within a small footprint.

DewAir Corp., an Ottawa-based, leading manufacturer of HVAC and IAQ products, has introduced the RH-Cube 18, the HVAC industry’s first split-system mechanical dehumidifier using a compact, energy-efficient counter-flow heat exchanger for dedicated humidity control. The RH-Cube 18 reduces air conditioning energy costs up to 55-percent and increases indoor air quality (IAQ) for restaurants, hotels, schools, healthcare clinics, athletic facilities, offices, grow-ops, factories, museums, warehouses, residences and many other applications with small to medium spaces requiring humidity control.

The 18,000-BTU/hr, 600-CFM unit independently supplements any air conditioning system by removing up to 206-lbs and 273-lbs (93 or 123-kg) of moisture/day at 45-percent and 60-percent relative humidity (RH), respectively. The RH-Cube 18 uses an R-410A refrigeration circuit/cooling coil to condense airborne moisture. However, unlike conventional air conditioning that often overcools a space while maintaining RH, the RH-Cube 18’s counter-flow heat exchanger energy-efficiently recovers return air heat to warm the cooled discharge air slightly below the room’s comfort zone temperature.

The patented, air-to-air counter-flow heat exchanger’s compact size outperforms other dehumidification methodologies many times larger than the RH-Cube 18 indoor evaporator/air handler’s small 38.2 (h) x 44 (w) x 28.4 (d)-inch (97 x 112 x 72-cm) footprint. The compact size and capacity make it ideal for spaces under 12,000 square feet such as food processing areas during wash downs, sports locker rooms, hotel hallways, grow-ops and other areas where excessive moisture can generate mold, mildew and other IAQ health issues.

Currently sold factory direct to HVAC contractors, the RH-Cube 18 is installed using the same tools and techniques of any split-system air-conditioning system. The 1-1/2-ton condenser is 220-V single-phase and the 120-V indoor air handler includes a grounded plug for connecting to any nearby electrical outlet. The condenser can be installed up to 82 feet away and 50 feet high from the indoor air handler. The unit’s condensate pan is gravity drained, however secondary pans, P-traps and condensate pumps can easily be added to comply with local codes. The RH-Cube 18’s static pressure and CFMs are designed for three-feet or more of 12 x 18-inch rectangular supply/return duct. The unit uses duct to only penetrate the common wall shared by its dedicated mechanical room and the space targeted for dehumidification.

Studies have proven the RH-Cube 18’s level of dehumidification can save electric costs and extend air conditioning equipment lifecycles. “If every home and building in Florida had an RH-Cube 18, you could reduce the state’s electrical (air conditioning) consumption by 27-percent,” said Jim Bridgerman, COO, DewAir Corp.

Other RH-Cube 18 features are:

  • When specified in new construction, the RH-Cube 18 can reduce air conditioning equipment sizes by up to 40-percent
  • UL and CSA listed
  • Sustainably uses energy recovery, instead of inefficient electric or gas-fired equipment, to heat condensed cooled air back to ambient temperature
  • Recommended maintenance is annual refrigerant circuit pressure checks, monthly MERV 8 filter changes, and condensate pan, P-trap and drain line inspection
  • Warranty: five years compressor and heat exchanger, one year all other parts
