Nothing Goes Undetected with the LRM‐292

The innovative PYROMID® series from InfraTec is getting a "small" addition

Fast gas changes, low gas concentrations, and short gas exchange times are not a challenge for the latest detector in the PYROMID® series. With the LRM‐292 pyroelectric detector in a TO46 housing, InfraTec offers the world's smallest multi‐channel detector with integrated operational amplifier and thermal compensation. Measuring only 4.7 mm in diameter, the LRM‐292 is predestined for measuring low gas concentrations at small measurement volumes.

Simple Signal Processing

Two standard integrated operational amplifiers, connected as transimpedance amplifiers, generate the current operation. This results in higher output signals than voltage mode detectors. Thus, not only simpler signal processing is enabled, but also an excellent signal‐to‐noise ratio – even at frequencies above 10 Hz. In addition, the LRM‐292 has been designed to use only one supply voltage, thereby reducing the amount of circuitry required.

High‐tech in the Smallest Space

The LRM‐292 owes its compact design to the tried‐and‐tested stacked construction method used in the entire PYROMID® series. The radiation‐sensitive elements are arranged in close proximity to keep the irradiated area as compact as possible. A robust central window offers protection against external influences. Alternatively, a hermetically sealed housing with soldered central window is available from InfraTec. In both versions, the channel filters inside the housing are protected from mechanical stress and other environmental loads.

Owing to its unique design, the LRM‐292 has a field of view (FOV) of 60°, exposing a very large portion of the radiation to the pyroelectric element. This generates high amplitudes of the output signal, which supports external signal amplification.

The LRM‐292 in Use

All of these features qualify this space saver for use in mobile or space‐optimized devices that require fast and accurate gas concentration measurements. For example, it can be used in medical devices to determine the CO2 content in exhaled air.

Due to its small size, the LRM‐292 is also installed in mobile safety technology and can be used in tasks where gas concentrations change rapidly. The small sensor saves lives in mines by monitoring the methane concentration underground and giving advance warning of explosive methane‐air mixtures.

With its ultra‐compact design and excellent signal‐to‐noise ratio, the LRM‐292 is a unique component globally. InfraTec also offers a variety of adapted narrow‐bandpass filters for different gases to be measured.

About InfraTec

The InfraTec infrared sensor and measurement technology company was founded in 1991 and has its headquarters in Dresden, Germany. The privately held company employs more than 240 employees and has its own design, manufacturing and distribution capabilities.

With its infrared measurement business unit, InfraTec is one of the leading suppliers of commercial thermal imaging technology. In addition to the high‐end camera series ImageIR® and the VarioCAM® High Definition series, InfraTec offers turnkey thermographic automation solutions e. g. for industry processes, non‐destructive testing and fire detection and prevention.

The infrared sensor division produces custom‐made components on more than 1.600 m² of clean room space – especially pyroelectrical infrared detectors – for clients worldwide. The product range includes analogue single and multi‐channel detectors as well as digital multi‐channel detectors (PyrIQ). The detectors are used, for example, in gas analysis, fire and flame sensors and spectroscopy
